Will keep an eye out if I get source one from a breaker. My other cars don't have induction kits on, I just needed something to replace the manky old filter on the car!

Done a few more little jobs this weekend, although it was so cold I didn't brave doing the brakes.

Fitted the new foglamp, and swapped both fog bulbs out for matching ones so thats one potential MOT failure crossed off the list!

Also scored an OEM Clarion CD player head unit with a code dirt cheap so I ripped out the crappy barely functioning aftermarket unit and put that in. Also purchased a wet and dry vac, gave the car a bit of a spruce on the inside although didn't get round to properly wet vac'ing it. Still much better than the grot it was before.

Its pretty filthy on the outside so thats a job for another day smile

Also cleaned up our new 206 GTI brakes , gave them a lick of paint aswell (first ever DIY refurb I've done). Now have our new discs, HEL braided lines, 306 GTI6 master cylinder and 206 GTI carrier bolts so fingers crossed all systems are go for getting it all swapped out now.

There is a suspicious grinding noise from the passenger side rear arch when under heavy load or hard acceleration so any pointers what this could be would be appreciated. I'm potentially thinking wheel bearing. Other than that though, loving the car smile

I was going to go and look at this car before Christmas. Glad to see it has ended up in some non-chav hands.

Look forward to seeing some more progress

FWIW front fog's are not part of the MOT test so makes no odd's as to if they work/mismatched bulbs etc. They can't fail you on them at all, i've known some testers to try & argue this until asked to find the exact page in the mot rule book and then there forced to bite there tongue.

Noises from the rear aren't a great sign on these. Jack it up and move the wheel in all directions, hopefully it's just a bearing, which is a complete sealed unit on these. From what I remember it's a 30/32mm Nut, and 4 allen bolts with either a puller or a big hammer to remove it from the stub axle. Euro car parts stock them for about £60.

But you might find it's play in the trailing arm bearings which means an axle rebuild/refurbished axle. If it does come to this, don't bother with a second hand one, as it's a common failing point on them, and any second hand one is really just going to be a ticking time bomb especially if it's lowered. There's a company called IM axles which specializes in refurbished axles for PSA products, had one from them back in September for my friends 106 GTi, superb service, think it was about £250 for a refurbished axle with a years warranty on an exchange basis for your old one. But they do give you 4 weeks from receiving the new one to wanting the old returned. But you will need to swap over wheel hubs (which includes the wheel bearings) and the brakes, but could be done in an afternoon. It is only 4 bolts that holds the axle to the car. The fun is just lowering it and re positioning it. Ideally a trolley jack either end is best as you need to raise it so far then slide it over a lip that sticks out from the fuel tank and then raise it the last bit to the body.

Work has been progressing with the Saxo although not as quickly as I'd hoped, mostly due to having a pretty busy life!

I took the Saxo up to the PH Essex meet at the lodge back in February and on the way there it started developing an utterly horrific noise from the front, which got worse as you drove quicker and only subsided under 20 ish mph or if you were under full bore acceleration. A quick google quickly diagnosed the issue as one or both drive shafts being completely mullered. So a replacement set was duly ordered for the quite reasonable sum of £80.

I'd never done a driveshaft replacement before but I'm glad we took it on and did it ourselves, even if we hit a few snags along the way. Whatever monkey had done some work down there before had absolutely destroyed the pinch bolts holding the lower ball joint onto the hub, and as such I had to order some replacement ones from Citroen. The drivers side drive shaft has an intermediate bearing and we just could not free the old shaft from the gearbox, no matter how much we swore at it. We threw in the towel one Sunday and came back to it the following weekend, gave the bearing housing a few taps with a hammer and POP, out comes the driveshaft.

Here's a picture of the old passenger side driveshaft, just because;

While we were doing the job, it appears someone had completely mangled the nut holding the drivers side drop link in place to the strut, and the drop links themselves on both sides were not in the best of health, so again some fresh ones ordered up and fitted. Had to make use of a nut splitter to free the old ones off the struts. Yesterday we put it all back together including the new pinch bolts, drained the old gearbox oil and refilled with 2 litres of new, and put the wheels back on. Horrible grinding noise gone!!! Yay.

And as the weather was nice yesterday, she even got a once over with some shampoo and a microfiber and is fairly presentable at the moment! Here's a warm/hot hatch group shot ( the Cooper S is my OH's)

Onwards and upwards!
