Thats one hell of a project! If i had the space I would be doing similar to a fiat Cing with an Arese V6...

The only thing I can think of to keep the AX looking stockish is to get another scrap AX, slice your shell down the middle and widen it so the wheels fit width wise, then butcher your new shell to fill the gap! it will look stock, just really wide... so will take some mental power to work out smile like the Saborro Golf with 911 engine

golf rallye/integrale style arches would look awesome as the Ax is quite boxish looking smile

sounds easy, and the metalwork isnt actually too bad, but try going to autoglass for a front windscreen............. lol!!

Genius project!

You have me thinking now, my Rover 214i is sat at home currently engineless (HGF and it looks like it has seized), someone jokingly mentioned putting a V8 in it. Could it really be such a crazy idea...?

Regarding the positioning of the engine, how will it affect the positioning of the seats, dash and steering wheel, or are you going for a custom interior (ie. gauges and a seat placed further back)?

Hmmm, ok, so my plan has one slight short fall..., but I'm sure that with some injenuity, perspex and clear sealant it would be doable.... plus it will maintain the minimal budget...

Other option is to graft the side panels on at an angle from the top of the pillars to give you the extra girth! (ooh err) spacing it out as you go down. Could do it only on the wings aswell ala the Fiat Panda that was punting around for ages on the classifieds with the escort turbo engine in the boot.... cut and shut. would look a tad pony, but the look on other peoples faces when then 'st box ax with crap kit' on it takes off at the horizon

Seat sits up against the step under the rear seat this allows me enough room for the pedals and my feet. interior is gonna be minimal, No dash etc... just some clocks 2 buckets and a cage. keep it as light as possible.

Subframe is off the Omega but used Corsa springs and ax sports shockers.
front is running coilovers off a Cavalier V6 i had given from a good friend

If you're doing it that way, also consider doing it "TRD" style.

Take some wings from an AX and space them out the required width, then simply plate back over till it reaches the old bodywork.

Leave gaps in the bodywork for ducting and cooling.

mmm interesting that one. did you manage to get a price for the other arches?
