Partner has an Astra with the 2.0L CDTI and it often goes into limp mode, a decent length drive clears it but I have to assume it's DPF related. It's complaining at the minute that there's a glow plug fault, but I read horror stories of them snapping when trying to remove them and needing to replace the whole head so haven't touched them.

It still starts fine in winter without them so it's more hassle than its worth.

She'll kill the thing off for good soon no doubt as it never gets used more than twice a week for a 15 minute drive...

Everything parts wise seems to be expensive on that car for what it is which is a frustration as she could have had something a lot nicer if she was willing to spend good money on repairs!

I had a Vectra C 1.8 which was wonderful, economical and reliable, liked the look of the insignia but reliability doesn't seem too good.

Mind you I drive a Renault now, so perhaps I'm not the best judge...heherolleyes

Dead glow plugs will often be the cause of failed regens. Happened to someone I know with a Vivaro, same engine family. and the DPF was blocked and it refused to start eventually.

Interesting, I'll keep an eye on that then. I try not to get too involved to be honest as it's a thankless task looking after a womans car.

Coming up to the three year anniversary and she still hasn't killed it - which to be absolutely frank is bloody amazing.

It has however suffered in the three years............ As I discovered when NN paid Mrs BC a visit on Sunday

I got to kick the tyres (all had air in them) a couple could do with replacement soon, check the oil (it was mid way up the stick) and the header tank had coolant in it and the brake fluid reservoir had brake fluid in it and it passed the moisture level test so I'm calling that a win........

The interior is a skip by any standards so I didn't see what the mileage was but a quick check on MOT history reveals it's done 50K miles in 3 years. It's now rocking along with over 160K miles covered.

OK it needs a wash - considering the rain we've had in the last month it's probably looking better than it should

Touch parking isn't the best method - the grill needs resetting - on the plus side the badge is still there!!!!

Front corners all have scrapes (headlamps are doing impressions of fish bowls)

Sides have scars

Rear corners haven't done much better

I have no idea - no idea at all!!!!

Poor car it's hard not to feel sorry for the life it has to lead

On the plus side it's sipping diesel and it recently got recalled by Vauxhall for rear toe link corrosion inspection and had them both replaced FOC and they did a 90 point inspection on it (guess the opportunity to up sell on a recall was too good to miss) and came up with the following recommendation

1. The can of tyre foam (no spare in this car) has expired - 6 years ago!!!!

That was it!!!!!

I said that was a surprise but she said it had just passed an MOT so shouldn't have needed anything...........

Err................

Not surprised at all - I think it'll be with me for a little brake and exhaust work soon yikes

It’s lasted a year more than any of her previous cars so credit where it’s due.

You can see why she is a car killer biggrin
