Corsa B First Car
Discussion
Finally passed my test first time a couple of weeks ago after doing a week intensive course and have just bought my first car (second really, sold the first before I could drive) which is a Vauxhall Corsa B 1.0.
Went and looked at various little rust buckets and petrols that sounded like transits with owners that openly admitted not servicing it for two years.. which is a good selling point! Then I came across this on Autotrader, it has full service history with main dealer stamps, serviced last month with receipts to prove and just generally a lot of paperwork of work that has been done to the car. Just in quite nice condition for its age really, was lucky to find it!
That's my mates GayA, refused to look at them at all..
Will get some better pictures as soon as it stops raining, loving it so far though, it even has a sunroof!

I had an 'Arden Blue' corsa B as my first car too, a 1.2 sxi! To be fair it was decent fun to chuck around as a first car and was fairly comfortable compared with a lot of cars its size. Weirdly it came with electric mirrors but only wind up windows!
Turned out to be a pretty unreliable example and I changed up to an astra after 6 months. Hopefully yours will be far better!

Cheers guys, no plans to crash it but I am afraid a bit of modifying will be done. Nothing stupid and OTT though.
Over a few months I just want to lower it a tiny bit (40-60mm) some nicer wheels and a head unit that has an Aux input.
As for the KA's, I would of considered them but I just don't like them at all really for no real reason.

Strong post count and join date to getting first car correlation.
Was always in Biker Banter as I was riding bikes around for 2-3 years, and still have one now Edited by TheBurgerKing on Wednesday 27th August 10:51
I have nothing against modifying but do not neglect informing the insurance company. If you fail to notify them of any changes (cosmetic and performance) your insurance will be invalid, should the worst happen. No doubt you already knew that, but worth mentioning. They may add the modifications to the policy for FREE but they may also increase your premium.
I would imagine that the reason why many posters suggest to not modify it is due to the cost of the (average) premium in the first year, without modifications. After having just gained my 1yrs NCB, I would hate to pay my first years premium again.

Seriously mate... don't bother. Save for something better
This, totally. Or spend it on fuel to actually go somewhere and do something with the freedom you now have. Or taking women out for dinner, or saving for a holiday. You won't regret spending money on experiences when you are young but you will regret wasting it on plastic st for a shopping trolley first car.skyrover said:
And no doubt rusty as hell
The Corsa will probably be less trouble come MOT time.
Marginally, I suspect. Whilst the Ka suffers terribly with rust, the Corsa B is pretty shoddy too. The Ka is a better handler, but feels so cheap and tatty. The Vauxhall is a little more substantial but still slow and cumbersome. Both lack the power to even blow your hat off, so surely one would pick the best of what was one offer of either model? The Corsa will probably be less trouble come MOT time.
girlfriends has a corsa c its a great little car only thing i dont like is the steering which seems very light to me but that might be because my car has heavier steering and the passanger side arch trim which always seems to fall off no matter what. Congratulations on passing your test. Learning to drive was the best thing I have done the independence is great 2 years on still got my first car can afford a lot nicer one now but attached to mine dont want to get rid of it i think that everyone has a thing for there first car no matter what it is. As for modifying it I have respect for anyone that gets there hands dirty no matter if the have a corsa or a caterham.

Oh I'll definitely inform insurance nothing more stupid than lying to them.. If it goes up by too much I just won't bother and take the mods off. Meh. Not a fan of holidays, haven't been abroad for years. Had freedom for a while, was riding bikes on the road for 2 years and I still am. If I do 'waste' money on it it will be money I can afford to waste, I only want three things anyway Chunkychucky said:
