Got this a couple weeks back, loving it! 2001 DC5 in Championship White, with the red Recaros. It's got a Dastek, DC Sports header, exhaust and injen intake, engine torque damper and coilovers. Hope you like.

Got it valeted and the results were brilliant, really happy.

Thanks very much all! smile

It's a 2001 with 62000 miles. I drove a 2008 Clio Dynamique 1.2 with all of 75bhp before this. The teg has 248.9bhp with a couple of rolling road print outs as proof, so it's a bit of a change! While I'll not say what I paid, it was a fair bit less than you guys in England pay. I'm in Northern Ireland and teg values have collapsed here.

The previous owner resprayed the front bumper and refurbed all four wheels, and put new Brembo discs and pads on up front. Oh and new Goodyear Eagle F1s. I've got new rear discs and pads sitting here ready to go on.

Steve - will be for sale in a year or two, but probably not before then. Too much fun!

OJ121 - it's a total hoot to drive. License endangering, you could say. Grippy and as said above, an awesome handling FWD car. Just takes what you give it and asks for more. Feels strange exiting corners at 6500rpm and not changing til 8k+

Thanks for the compliments! I agree it hasn't really aged at all. Strange how something ten years old can look so contemporary isn't it?

I do prefer the pre-facelift, mainly due to the headlights and tail lights. Both are lovely looking cars, though.

It gets a lot of looks. As said, quite a few people have no idea what it is. Some people walk round looking for a badge smile

This was one of the cars that i was looking at in November but ended up buying an Astra vxr instead. I still finding myself looking on the classifieds for one now though and i don't think i'd think twice if i could straight swap them. The only things that put me off were the fact that insurance for an import would be out of my range and the fact that i get very good discount for work or parts on Vauxhalls.

As others have said it hasn't aged at all and i think Honda made a big mistake not releasing the DC5 over here. Would have sold like hot cakes. It still even makes quite competitive appearances in the BTCC. What sort of mpg are you getting from her? Also will be interested in what figures you get quoted for servicing.
Insurance is a bit of a bh, being group 20 and Japanese. Honda OEM parts are really quite cheap, as a result of the 'Honda Happiness' pricing system. I just bought OEM rear discs and they were £90 + delivery. I'm getting 24mpg or so and that's with only hitting VTEC a few times per fill, which sucks. But it's modified and I sit in heavy traffic for the commute so I guess that's the reason.

As far as servicing goes - well, it seems to have been home serviced after 60,000km so there's not a lot of point in me taking it to a garage from now. We have a fella who services all our family cars, and he's fitting discs and pads, changing the oil, oil filter and fuel filter next week. It passed the MOT with no advisories three weeks ago.

I couldn't do that to a VTEC frown

Supercharger for VTEC, so it can still kick in.

Yo.
Although you're being sarcastic, the point still stands. I'd take the supercharger option over a turbo, because with a supercharger, the mapping is set to work in harmony with the VTEC. It 'spools up' gradually.

Much nicer.

I can imagine mine is a group 17 i believe and thats bad enough! That isn't bad at all for rear discs. So i'm just going to have to check on insurance. Honda are very well built so the age does not bother me. Especially as within 1000 miles of me owning my vxr the dreaded gearbox made from cheese decided to eat itself. The mpg is a little worse than mine, i currently get late 20's early 30's. Do you run on standard petrol or momentum 99/ v-power?

Really does sound a solid car. You're really not helping me keep my current car for longer than 6 months laugh
I actually run on 97, from Sainsburys - it's close, so that's the main reason I use it. It's mapped for 97+.

'Gearbox made from cheese' made me laugh! Mine has a notchy second gear when it's cold. A lot of 01-02 DC5s have this. Mine isn't too bad in all honesty - it just slips out occasionally, and only when cold.

I find you get quite a bit more response with the super unleaded fuels.

You wouldn't actually believe this, but the boyfriend of one of the girls that works at the gym i go to has a vxr also. I mentioned to her that our cars have a gearbox made from cheese. She atually believed this and still to this day used the excuse 'i'm a girl and don't know anything about cars'. laugh

At least it's only second gear. First and second wouldn't really cause a problem. It's not one that you'd really keep the car in for long.
Haha! I suppose it wouldn't surprise me greatly, when I think about it! Good point re second gear not being one you'd keep the car in for long. Never thought of it that way.

Get one, you'll not regret it wink

I'll keep looking at them. I've got to renew my insurance in the next two months so while i'm phoning up i'll get a few quotes to compare.

I bet you've stocked up on the detailing gear buying a white car?! Championship white is one of the nicest colours out there imho.
Haha, yeah I've got an awful lot of products. I'm never out of Halfords buying cleaning gear! Just got a pressure washer there too, loving that.

It's washed a lot more than I should at the minute. The fella who had it before me rotary polished it, so there's not a single swirl in the paint work.

Thanks for the lovely comments all! smile

Regarding the Dastek - I have a print out of before and after. It gave about 13bhp and really ironed out the torque and BHP 'blip' at crossover. I didn't drive it before so I'm not sure how it feels in comparison.

It's much less comprehensive than the Hondata system, but we don't have anybody who can work with that system here in Northern Ireland. So Dastek is the alternative smile

What mods have been done on the engine? 248.9 BHP is fantastic.I would love to know.
Sure - it's 248.9bhp, from a standard of 214bhp I think?

It has a DC Sports header, exhaust and injen intake, plus a Dastek fitted and mapped by AI Autosport over here. That's the engine mods. Should be said that 248.9 is on AI's rollers. Obviously they all vary a bit. Quick car anyway.

I had that in my EP3, change the gearbox oil with some Honda MTF3, much improved if it hasnt been changed in a while. People often forget to change manual gearbox oil.
Hey Rob, thanks for the suggestion. I also thought this, and was planning on changing it, but the previous owner let me know he'd changed the MTF just a couple weeks previously.

Must ask him if it was MTF3, as I've heard that's really the only one worth using for these cars.

Thanks for the comments smile

Grovsie I had a thread a while back about shocks and springs for the DC5, and you very kindly posted pictures of your DC5 on Eibachs!

Rob - will look into that! As you say, it's bloody fantastic when warm. Honestly, I hesitate to admit it but half the problem was technique. It happens very little now, even when cold. Though saying that it slipped when shifting and turning a corner leaving work.

I'm really glad I went with it. The speed, the noise and the attention it gets are all great biggrin

Thanks all!

Matt - I think that's why. Such a shame they didn't import it, though. Would have been a bit more insurance friendly then (although maybe more would have been crashed, so the statistics might have made up for any saving there.)

Grovsie - a LOT of dogs around. I'm really lucky with this one.

Blackeyedpease - thanks! I was testing out my new lens. Got a 50mm Minolta for £20 off eBay. Bargain!

Are they 160bhp?

And thanks for your comment smile She's proving great as a daily driver!

Few different one's, the best RSX is 200bhp i think, not much short of the Type R, does weigh a bit more though and doesn't have the brakes, LSD, etc.
They don't have Recaros either, do they?

Balls, 8k miles?

I'm running a fair bit of camber but I suppose at 8k miles I'll still get about a year and a half out of them. Hmm.

Yeah they're the V pattern, looks really cool and as I say unbelievably good in the wet but piss poor in the wet. Seen those asymmetrics, might get those on the rear as they're getting near enough the limit on the inside edge now frown
