After several "what car" threads on here, I thought I would post up my new motor smile

It is a 1998 Ford Mondeo ST24 2.5 V6, 104,000 miles and loads of new parts! Came with lots of bits too, and it is in great nick!

Bad bits - needs the rear arches rubbed down and touched up, but they are salvageable. Could do with the IMRC being re-soldered, but even without it it still shifts. And the bonnet has been sprayed cheaply at some point, which is good because there are no chips and no rust, but bad because it doesn't quite match. Can easy sort that though smile

I am delighted with it, and I would like to hear your comments on it smile

And it only cost me £800!

Nice car, those Ford V6s make a pleasant noise. Should be in Reader's Cars though. wink
I did wonder why there weren't more of these posts!

Mods, please move! Sorry for my stupidity boxedin

Thanks for the comments, this one has a stainless steel Scorpion exhaust which sounds really nice, not loud, just nice smile

Is there really any point in blanking them? I just do it because I see some other folk do it...

Thanks for the comments smile

Oh, and does anyone have any idea what this is for?

It has a wire coming from it, but I have no idea where it goes! Any suggestions? smile

Don't worry, it is going to stay the way it is!

Looks like it has the RSAP and that is more than enough for me smile

Only mods that will be done will be in the power department wink

Will do!

First job is to kill the rust on the rear arches, will probably just rub them down and paint them for now. Might replace them later on once the rest of the car is how I want it smile

Also planning on throughly cleaning the underside of the car and undersealing it properly.

Then, I will rope my mechanic mates in to giving me a hand doing this IMCR thing.

After that... Maybe ST200 inlets and cams? Who knows smile

I don't know much about Fords, but is rust on Mondeos of this age a problem? I regularly see a similarly aged Mondeo in an industrial estate with arches so rusty it's almost comical.
There is a bit of rust on the rear arches, but it doesn't look too bad at all. Should just be a case of sanding it back and painting it.

There is also a little bit starting to appear on the spare wheel well. but besides that there is none on it at all!

I think it can be an issue, but I am going to wax it regularly and make sure it is undersealed properly smile

I'd be looking at a brake upgrade, I've driven an ST24 and an ST200 and the brakes were shockingly bad.
This one has got newish brakes all round, certainly stops better than my mk3 did!

It is something I will do at some point though smile

Good car pal, had a drive at one of these the other week and was pretty disappointed after getting out of the Clio and in to it. It was pretty shagged though hehe
Thanks smile

Probably had a knackered IMRC unit, had a go in my mate's one who has just had it done and it really transforms the car! Will be getting mine done this weekend hopefully smile

I love the torque of this car, very effortless. I think it is a very, very different car from your clio wink

Would love a go in one, they look great fun!

Cheapest IMRC unit I can find is £179, will that really be better than just putting a new transistor on?

Will get the water pump done as well, is it particularly difficult to do?

Likewise.

In fact, if the OP wants them, I have some brakes from a Mk3 which are a direct fit. They need a bit of cleaning / tidying, but you can either collect them (free) or pay postage.
I would be interested in these, where are you based? smile

Interesting article posted above, is that the wiki that someone mentioned a few pages back?

Update:

Going to give the car a good service today, and also break out the soldering iron and see if we can get this IMRC working again.

Will keep you updated!

Car looks good,i like most others here had one a few years ago and loved it.Should never have traded it in for that unreliable bucket of an ST170

I think i just passed you a wee while ago heading towards the millburn roundabout? I was in the old silver rs
You did as well! I noticed the other old Ford, your one looks really tidy smile

Good to see some other PHrs in Inverness, are you a member of any of the old car clubs up here?

Podie said:
I'd guess at about £20. Might be cheaper if I sent them individually!

I'll weigh them, then we can work it out.
That would be great, PM me when you know please smile

Thanks smile

Car has just been treated to an oil and oil filter change, along with a new fuel filter! Looks really solid underneath, a little rust on the spare wheel well, but I now have access to a ramp so will get it all cleaned up and undersealed soon smile

Considering a K&N filter for it, what do you guys think?

Depending on the calliper stamp on the ones on the ST24 they'll be desirable to TVR Griffith and Chimaera owners looking to upgrade. smile
You mean if I replaced them, the ones that come off might be of use to someone? smile

It would be a panel filter that would go on, a cone one wouldn't do very much I don't think. What would drilling holes in the airbox do?

Took the IMRC apart the other night to have a poke about, sure as fate, it didn't work so I put it all back together again. However, I think I may have accidentally fixed it! I think it was a loose connection or something, but there was a big increase in power that kicked in around 4k.

Took it out for a blast today and was significantly faster, but on the way back it decided it didn't want to work again.

Will have another poke about and tighten everything up and see what happens. At least I know the car's potential now smile
