I Was looking at another diesel to replace my beloved Volvo S60 D5 (Now in the hands of my OH) , as good as the Volvo was it lacked the excitement of my previous Volvo 850 T5 (MTE mapped) wagon.

Anyway I lost the will to live looking at another diesel so bought a B5 S4 Quattro Avant instead biggrin

This first week has been a case of love at first sight....I'm truly smitten.

I Have spent the weekend out in the garage cleaning and polishing.
Also torqued the wheel bolts, set the tire pressures and generally checked and tinkered with her to my hearts content.

Some pics:

Did/Do you not have a TDI Golf and a XC90 T6 as well? Update on those?

Very nice B5, I'm sure you'll keep us all updated on how it works out.
Yep, all is good with the rest of the vehicles, The FireBlade is in hibernation, The XC90 is good as gold, The Golf 1.9 tdi is off the the Scrappers (so MissB now has my S60 D5) due to rust frown shame to scrap it as it has been ultra reliable for the two years we've had it.

Looks awesome dude!

What was your T5 like? I seem to have bitten the Swedish Turbo bug and am looking at Turbo Volvos (insurance dependant).
Thank you very much smile

It is no secret that the 850 T5 was to date the only car I've regretted selling, I did look at buying another (looked at a few actually) but gave up due to finding shed after shed described as "mint". I loved my old T5 cloud9

So far the S4 Quattro has stolen my heart in the same way the T5 did.
It's a real pleasure to drive, even on a damp greasy morning like today the grip it finds is staggering and the sound of the Twin turbo V6 on song is spine chilling ears

Thank you Josh, I am so far driving

I've been reading about the AWD system, According to Wiki it is a Quattro Version 4 50:50 split on the B5 S4, that shifts power around with any slip giving a maximum of 75% drive to either end if/when needed.

quattro generation IV
Starting from 1995 on Audi A4/S4/RS4 (B5 platform), Audi A6/S6/allroad/RS6, Audi A8/S8 with both manual and automatic transmissions. Also on VW Passat B5, where it was initially referred to as syncro, but by the time it reached US soil, it had been re-christened 4motion. Also used on the Volkswagen Phaeton and Volkswagen Group D platform sister vehicles. The Volkswagen Touareg used 4Xmotion with a separate transmission, PTUs and front axles.
The manually locking rear differential from the earlier generations was replaced with a conventional open differential, with Electronic Differential Lock (EDL) (which detects wheelspin via ABS road wheel speed sensors, and applies brakes to one spinning wheel, thus transferring torque via open differential to the opposite wheel which has more traction). EDL works at speeds up to 80 km/h (50 mph) on all quattro models (on non-quattro models: up to 40 km/h (25 mph).
System type: Permanent four-wheel drive.
Torsen type 1 or 2 centre differential, 50:50 'default' split, automatically apportioning up to 75% of torque transfer to either front or rear axle.
Open rear differential, Electronic Differential Lock (EDL).
Open front differential, Electronic Differential Lock (EDL).

She should be ok on the snow out my way.
She really does grip like st to a blanket, NONE of the pitching and yawing you get mid-corner with some AWD systems I've driven.

I'm in love.

Uncanny, this is exactly what I used to say about mine.

Looking lovely, enjoy.
I clicked on your profile to take a look at your old one half expecting to see a pic of mine staring back at me biggrin

Yours looked great too, nice colour....same wheels as mine.

btw
I had a chance to test the AWD properly this morning, it all works as it should on snow, shame it was dark otherwise I'd have taken a picture or two...I do like pictures of my cars.

Thanks for the good comments.

Minor update:
She went in to my trusted independent today for a service and a full once over, She's been given a clean bill of health...zero fault codes, nice and dry underneath...Technician commented that she was a great example and in very good condition all round.

smile

Always a relief with a new"old" car.

Yes, there were no leaks at all...tbh I didn't expected any as the pipework and hoses all look to have been replaced at some point, plus she pulls clean and strong right the way through the rev range.

Update:
She went in to the Audi dealership today to have the radio code retrieved (Audi offer this as a FREE service, although one dealer I rang was trying to charge £35 to do it).

For an older car the stereo is surprisingly good (Six disc multi-changer in the boot).

Then took the long way home.

Have done over a thousand miles in her so far, absolutely thrilled to bits.

Good work chap. The Bose standard unit is good isn't it.

Next SS?
Yep, I can't believe it has a Sub woofer (The BOSE pack) hidden behind the lining in the boot cool The stereo sounds great for such an old car.

I'll be at the next SS for sure, it's not been announced yet but as soon as it is I'll message you.
