Finally took delivery of my Supra
Discussion
Cars are strange emotional things. I've never looked at a BMW and always loved Supras having had a MKIV years ago.
So for me, even though apparently I'm getting a BMW by proxy, the Supra is great. It is fun to drive and a comfortable place to sit. The entertainment system is painful and still not activated and Apple Play doesn't work as Supra Connect (which is BMW connect) needs to be switched on somehow on the server.

Yes. The car is great, life is not and things changed quite quickly this week personally. There’s a particular thread but other things as well sadly. If I can get around list price that’ll do. Not the best thing to say with an advert live.
Quick review though :
I’ve been out of having “fast” cars for years and always loved my MKIV Supra that I sold 15 years ago. So I was very very excited when a new one was launched and ordered in January. Apart from the personal things that I didn’t expect it was also a rather rash decision for several reasons not least of which is that I’m now old and tired and perhaps not up to having this kind of car again.
Once inside it’s comfortable, and it cocoons you in without being claustrophobic. Back to the old thing: actually getting in and out is more of a challenge and I feel a bit like that clip from LA story where a person in Zimmer frame struggles to walk and to get in a Ferrari before zooming off. I’ve never had a two seater before so find that a little odd. Went to pick up my daughter yesterday and she wanted to bring a friend home and forgot to ask. Nope. Just two seats. Not the cars fault of course as I knew what I was getting.
To drive it’s very comfortable and peaceful and is surprisingly not bumpy at all. The family car we have is firmer to drive normally. If you want to get more spirited then it’s quick and easy and powers away. The automatic gearbox isn’t as responsive as I would like and do not feel in the mood if I want to overtake someone to use the flappy paddles. Sport mode helps with this a little but put your foot down and it takes a good second to sort out it’s life before roaring into the correct gear. Once there, it stays on the ball and will keep up with what you want although it does this by somewhat over revving. Maybe this is normal for an automatic and the Supra is class leading, but I haven’t had one before so can’t compare.
The entertainment system is incredibly frustrating, unfriendly and illogical which is surprising as it is BMWs. All the things you want to do are there but just hidden within oddly laid out menus.
Introspectively, I always feel that life is in reverse and that by the time a normal person can afford something it is too late. Many years ago I would have loved this car but now I should probably jack it all in, buy a comfortable jumper and a Prius.
I will persevere, probably keep the car and will update the thread when I’ve had the car longer and got used to it and over other things.

With regards to the dealers and Toyota, the Supra appears to be a bit of a shock to them and they are all over the place.
I ordered my car in January and Toyota were great at keeping in touch (they sent me a Supra branded Alexa and invited me to Thruxton) but had no idea when the car was arriving: "Talk to your dealer". I did, and they repeatedly didn't call me back and didn't have any contact with me apart from an email one day saying "Your Supra is here". I wasn't impressed as I had to scrabble around trying to find the money and I almost just cancelled there and then.
On the plus side, with a few more days driving around it is getting better and I'm hoping that it was just tarnished with all the bad experiences (life and Toyota combined) that caused a hasty "let's just get rid of it and move on". It is easy to drive and despite what is said by the posters above I do quite like the way it looks.
