I just got back to Chicago from Bristol Tennessee. My 8.2 litre 1982 Cadillac Fleetwood and I won the Car Craft Magazine Real Street Eliminator Title. I was one of the over 300,000 Car Craft magazine readers asked to send entries in for Car Craft’s Real Street Eliminator competition. 5 cars were selected from the entries received. The event was open to anyone with a street legal car that has been modified and or customized to enhance performance. This was a combined contest of Drag Racing, Autocross, Ride& Drive, and Workmanship. The competition was stiff: 2 big buck Camaro's, tubular subframes, Wilwood 6 piston GN billet brake calipers, etc, etc. A Trans Am and a Caprice. I won the 1/4 mile with an 11.80 vs the other car's 12.68, 12.7, etc. I Got 2nd place in the autocross by .5 seconds to the Trans Am that ran the Car & Driver One Lap of America, which was equipped with autocross slicks. I was the only car that ran one set of street tires for the whole event including the street portion. I had just enough points in the other categories to take the overall win. It was my goal for 10-15 years to be one of the 5 cars selected to compete, never dreamed I'd ever win the thing overall! The whole deal will be featured in the March issue of Car Craft on the newsstand some time late Jan or so.
For those of you that want a sneak peek, it's in the current issue of Car Craft (Nov) on the newsstand now, page 44. Don't know if you get that mag in the UK.

Thanks,
We have another contest here that is stricly 1/4 mile called Fastest Street Car and they run 8's as well. The contest I particapated in was for more all around performance including a 100 mile street drive through the twisty mountain roads of North Carolina in the rain and an autocross (time trials) competition. Every car I've seen that runs 8's in the 1/4 wouldn't be able to do these other things.
Cheers
