Was chatting to some of your members earlier at french car show and thought I'd post up and say hello smile

I'm from Northamptonshire and own a Peugeot 309 XE 1.1ltr 1988, which I bought for £100 pounds three years ago with 49bhp.

Mods so far are...

Engine...

- weber 40 carb conversion
-custom manifold
-catch tank
-electric fuel pump

Interior...

-gti bucket seats
-willans 3 point supersport harnesses
-dvd player
-phase two steering wheel

Exterior...

-full rattle can respray in satin black (from regency red)
-tinted side repeaters
- gti alloys
-de-badged
-square cut out style grill
-random vinyls

Brakes...

-gti front brake conversion (vented disks)
-gti master cylinder

Suspension...

-AVO coilovers

'Gertrude' the 309 was put on the rolling road to today and managed to get 73bhp, so very happy with these results!

I'll get some pictures posted up as soon as I can.

Look forward to hearing back from you smile

Some photo's for you to browse...

This is how the car looked when I first bought it >

After a few mods (originally I lowered it 35mm on Jamex Sportsline struts and coils)>

And this is how she's rolling now (wheels keep changing colour while I decide what to stick with LOL) >

Will get some pics of the engine bay for you within the next few days smile

The red was quite scratched and dented when polished frown It gets noticed a lot more now that's for sure smile

Thanks for your opinions though smileGot so much more to do to it this year (hopefully)

I thought about bright green wheels but the interior is still red and I don't think it would look right, unless I sprayed that too, would rather spend my time and money on the engine bay though tbh.

Went for a matt colour because I liked it biggrin

Ah thanks for that advice! smile

I did consider a bigger engine but I just love to be different, at the moment it turns heads because yes, the idea of a 40 on a 1.1 does seem crazy, but that's why I love it! It's cheap as chips to insure and when you have other things to save for every little helps smile

My aim is to get it to 100bhp, just for the pure hell of it. It's so satisfying watching my friends taking out loans and spending thousands of pounds on 'newer' and supposedly quicker cars, when with a few hundred spent here I can keep up with them in a 1.1 smile

Thank you smile Thinking of lightening the flywheel, porting and polishing the head, getting a new fuel pump (that works!) and building an airbox and getting induction kit on it as cold air to carb is blocked atm by the rad, either that or put a GTi rad in but that seems like too much hastle!

I may convert to a bigger engine at some point in the future, but at the moment this is my project baby and I want to do it to see if it can be done smile Will keep you updated.

And for Lil' Joe who didn't believe me http://s3.photobucket.com/albums/y63/cudpud/?actio... I kid you not.

Thought about buying some OZ Rally wheels from a Lancia Delta Integrale but apparently they won't fit, got a few people to ring and enquire though, not buying them if they're too pricey (which is what I expect), trying to keep the project relatively cheap atm (my GTi alloys were free) smile

I wanted them really bright so I sprayed them 'Ford Carnival Red', but it turned out to be more orange! (as you see in one of the pics), so I reverted to the colour they are now, which is the original car colour - Peugeot regency red smile HTHS

Don't tempt me LOL

My friend knows someone that's getting rid of an Mi at the moment, VTS engine keeps popping into my head though...might just leave as is, while I decide what to do next laugh

I did want to get another 309 as a proper project car (not a daily driver) but lack of space means I can't and also I want my next car to be the one I've wanted for years, so trying to keep costs down on this project, ready for the next one biggrin

Thanks for all the feedback smile

I've decided to go ahead with modifying this engine more, having considered VTS engine (not a lot of power gain but lot's of hastle, high insurance etc)...

...Get it to 100bhp just for the hell of it, then see about an Mi or Gti 6 conversion smile
