Whatever you get on insurance, just look at the good side - there's others that pay £2000+ for insurance. As I'm paying £3084 on a 04 plate Corsa 1.0 Active on 3rd party fire and theft.
havent you looked around for different quotes?
you are sure to get cheaper than that

Well I have a Corsa C and im pretty happy with it. 100% reliability for me thus far, good MPG, good dealers (most of the time) and the insurance isn't too bad. Mine's a 1.2 Twinport, so its got a bit of power without your insurer going nuts. Keep away from SRi's, you will not get insured. Maybe something like this one: http://pistonheads.com/sales/1780898.htm or http://pistonheads.com/sales/1744622.htm

Otherwise, maybe an old Mini? Peugeot 206? Renault Clio? There's a lot out there

the corsa appeals to be because it is easy to style in the way i want, ive been told that the are good solid cars. The mini does appeal but it is the saftey aspect that worries me. Im only going for an engine size upto 1.2, i think. Cheers

That sounds ominous. Please avoid bolting stick-on tat to a first car if you want to keep your insurance premiums low (and not get laughed at).
No i am not interested in bodykits and bolt on cheap things.
