Somthing a bit different for the regular readers on here (oh no a Pauxhall!)

Since i'm not insurance friendly enough to own a real PH car, i swapped my Astra in at the weekend for a 54 Plate Corsa SRi.

I'm very impressed with the car, better on fuel than i would have thought, the seats are comfy and it has cruise control! smile

There are a few little problems that need address, like the smoked front lights that are rather "chavvy" and like a tt i opened the boot onto the garage roof leaving a minute mark on the boot, but little things like that piss me off!

I've already done the brake pads, and have the bonnet to free of some dents. So plenty of work to do!

I would appreciate comments smile

Its not the car that makes you a pistonhead, its your attitude and way of driving.

Its only if you stick a load of chavved up Halfauds style tat that you sway from the one true way ....

That corsa is nice and tidy, my stepson is hoping for a Corsa when he finally kills off his first car (Clio 1.2).
Wise words smile Is he looking for the 1.2? I would avoid it to be honest, they are chain driven and sound like tractors! The 1.4 has a belt and isn't that much more on insurance wink

I suppose another thing that makes you a PH, is your respect for car's? Ie looking at a E30 BMW and knowing its a brilliant machine rather than an old banger, which i can safely say i do smile

Nice car. Was looking at these when 18/19 as like you say the insurance group is very reasonable for the performance.
Yup, 0-60 is around 8 seconds, would be better if the gearbox was longer ratio but ah well

Is it not the 3 cylinder 1.0 that sounds like a tractor?

I had a 1.2 SXI courtesy car a while back after some old fella ploughed into my last car. Thought it was pretty nippy & held its own well on the motorway, even if it did drink more than I'd have liked it to.

Yours looks a tidy motor by the way. I don't even think the lights look that bad either!
Both the 1.0 and the 1.2 sound terrible IMO. They can stay with traffic though smile and yeah my MPG was circa 35, not good for a 1.2!

It'll be a little while before he can be seriously looking at something though - save up a few ££ first.

And he'll have to learn some basics. Like where the oil goes in. Water, tyre pressures. Or to take the aerial off before going through a car wash. Poor lad has made some entertaining mistakes, left the aerial on in the car wash, I had to do an emergency filling job late on a very wet evening. He'd managed to check the oil, but left the dipstick out ..... and getting him to explain the "funny noises" the car was making was giving me a few laughs whilst trying to work out what the feck he'd done.

Definitely agree with respect for cars, and not to dismiss something due to it being older. Unless its from BL and made in the 70s/80s, in which case its likely to be lousy.
Haha, sounds like he needs a project to work on to be honest smile Buy a crash damaged and show him the way?

And sorry to sound like a young n00b, but well i am one. What is BL? British Layland? That was what first sprung to mind..

You're not getting a Fiesta ST then?
Erm probably will never own a Fiesta ST tbh, don't have much respect for them either other than the visuals. Why do you ask that lol?

Yup, British Leyland/Austin/Rover/etc. Lots of friends had them when I was back at sixth form 20+ years back. They were rust buckets even back then .... especially with the Blackpool seaside air helping speed up the corrosion. I didn't find one decent Fiat 127 in the whole area when i was starting to drive.

Project would be interesting, but it would be virtually just me working on it, he's too loved up with his girl ....
I've just bought a Corsa project with my dad smile Will make a thread on here when we pick it up and begin work!
