Sold my MK3 as I was bored with it, the idea was to put some money towards a new camera and buy a cheap £600 runabout.
Was hoping for something interesting and fun to drive (the MK3 wasnt much fun to drive, very low so scraped everywhere) but thought that was doubtful with my budget.
Browsing Ebay at old hot hatches and I came across this MK2 Golf GTI 16v in Jade Green.
Its a big bumper model, the paint isnt the best but being a 21 year old car I didnt expect it to be perfect, the main thing is there is very little rust!
Going to give the car a full detail this weekend to put some shine back into it.
Its been lowered sensibly and sits on Corrado Sebring alloys, also has Corrado front seats which are more supportive than the usual MK2 items.
Came with a massive folder of service history, reciepts and every MOT from new.
Oh and the original 1.8 16v lump has been swapped for a 2.0 16v from (Im told) an Audi Coupe.
So its plenty of fun to drive!!
Looking forward to bringing it along to some PH runs.
It came in just over my £600 budget but not by much.
Anyway, a couple of pics.....

Looks good, always liked the big bumpered mk2s.
What are all the little pipes that go from above the airbox to the inlet manifold and beyond?
I have absolutely no idea!!!What are all the little pipes that go from above the airbox to the inlet manifold and beyond?
The guy I bought it off didnt know much about it either but when I asked if it was an ABF engine he pointed at those and said that it was a different injection system.
Ah well, it runs fine, drives brilliantly with no bangs or funny noises and is quick enough to annoy anyone who just see's it as an old knackered F reg Golf so Im very happy!
Bit of an update:
Not really done anything to this since buying it, been having too much fun driving it
I havent even cleaned it yet!
Heaters decided to pack up Monday morning so me and lad at work been messing with it trying to get some warmth in the interior again and he said he thought it didnt look like a standard KR engine so we did some investigating and using a 4 post ramp and an inspection light we found what I was hoping we would find, a big 2.0 stamped on back of the block.
So its a 6A engine lifted from an Audi Coupe.
From what Ive read this afternoon it is a common thing for the KR cams to be put in the 6A engine and this gives around 170bhp.
No way of knowing if this has been done to mine really without putting it on a rolling road but to be honest it feels like it, its definitely quicker than my ABF engined MK3 was.
Really loving it at the minute.

See how I feel when Im back from my holiday.
Its going to need a clutch either way so will do that, might put some original small bumpers on, sell the big bumpers and see how I like it.
I think if I did that and also changed the wheels to something more original or maybe even G60 steels then I might like it again.
I wouldnt scrap it, the shell itself is far too good for that.

Well I came back from my 2 week honeymoon and the battery had drained on the Golf. We couldnt jumpstart it as it was blocking the Lupo in on the driveway. And the brakes had siezed.
We had to "shunt" it out of the way with the Lupo (very gently, put a roll of carpet between the bumpers as not to scratch them)
So anyway I got it started eventually and took it for an hours run, I thought that would have charged it sufficiently to get me to work the following morning.
Nope.
Next morning it was dead again. So again we jumped it using the Lupo and I set off to work with the intention of fitting a new battery at work.
As I got to a busy roundabout at the start of the M65 I slowed to stop at the junction, as I did the car cut out and there was no power to restart it, I had to push it across four lanes to the pavement. Luckily other kind drivers stopped for me.
So thats it, Ive had enough, its going next week.
A friend who has a couple of MK2's and a unit full of parts is going to swap it for a MK3 TDI he has as a daily, bit of cheap motoring for me and he will make a good MK2 to out this so everybody wins.
