Hi guys,

I know this isn't the most exotic car on the forum, but it's my project/daily driver for the next year or so wink

I recently bought a '91 VW Polo GT. It's replacing my '98 Polo 1.4 16v which I had running on CBR600 bike carbs. Made a lovely noise but wasn't really practical for cold weather, as I didn't fancy dealing with carb icing all winter!

On to the GT...

It's just ticked over to 76k and is spotless underneath. I was really surprised when we got it up on the ramps.

First job was to get a Lambda boss welded in to the stainless 4 branch.

I also fitted a 300mm OMP steering wheel.

And these finally turned up yesterday after they sat in a hub in Germany for 10 days!

Got them fitted last night but don't have any pictures yet. It's only a sensible 60/40 drop, so nothing too major.

Plans

I've got a PPS Stage 3 subframe on its way to help cure the vagueness of the suspension setup.
I'll also be fitting a 256mm brake upgrade using Vectra calipers, carriers, and pads, Mk2 Golf GTi 16v discs.

Also, next year will see an Eaton G40 lump being put in there biggrin

Cheers biggrin It feels like a go kart compared to the other cars I've had! First one I've owned without power steering as well. I love how there's so much more feedback coming through the wheel.

Quick update. The new suspension is fitted now and has settled nicely. I've got a bit of an issue with how the exhaust was mounted so I'll be taking a look at getting it moved up more into the car today.

Blurry pic of the exhaust/ground interface. There's only ~5cm clearance!

This thing just loves the abuse. Feels much more solid than my other Polo was! Engine wise, the plan is to buy a G40, swap the engine into this, put the GT engine into the G40 shell and sell it on again. Cheapest way to get hold of a block smile

Mike: That looks in really good nick! What did you use to polish that? I need to get my DA on it as soon as the weather clears up a bit.

Matt: Yeah, I'm on ClubPolo and have just joined Polo3. Been on ClubPolo for a while with my 6n.

I'm running 14" Passat steelies at the moment (mini G60s) and have got some Steffan BCWs to go on in Spring. Not sure if the 8s will fit on the back without work, but I'll just get another pair of 7s if not biggrin

Cheers

What makes the PPP subframe better than the PPS one? My PPS one with uprated rear box mount should be turning up in the next couple of weeks.

I've been cleaning up the Vectra calipers and carriers, got some Black Diamond Predator pads to go on. Just need to get some hoses now. Got hold of some GT arch trims as well because I think the car looks too naked without them on.

I tried to order a chip but Poloace didn't get back to me. I've noticed that PPP do them as well.

The plan was to get a G40 with a tatty shell and do the swap. If I can find a G40 with a good, straight shell then I'll just move everything across from this to the G. Not sure if I want to go Eaton yet, I've been reading up on the K03 setup.

Busy weekend ahead I think smile

PPS Stage 3 subframe with uprated rear gearbox mount, and a 256mm brake upgrade using Vectra 16v carriers/calipers along with Mk2 Golf GTi discs. Should give me enough time to bed them in before a track day at Oulton Park at the beginning of February!

mmm wouldn't mind a BAM in there!

I think it'll be a G40 engine to begin with and then eventually go down the K03 turbo route with it. I want to get the chassis/brakes sorted before I add any real power though.
