OK, so I have posted stuff on my car on other forums, but thought I'd throw a few details up here for those who are not necessarily into Alfa's but don't mind something a little left of field. if there's some interest, I'll postmore pics and details of the build.

The car:
1976 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT 1.8Lt.
Engine replaced with the GTV 2liter engine (single spark/cyl).
Engine - Supercharged and turbocharged, first stage intercooled, second stage water meth injected.

I've had 'well respected' people tell me the car is a fake, a fraud, and that I'm not the real builder/owner etc. I took this as a compliment. If I was going to make something up, I'd do it to a car with less rust! You have to laugh some times.

Anyhow, I'm an Aussie, and it's well known Aussies just have to 'tinker', and I'm no different. I've owned the car for a bout 5years, and it's probably about the 40th car I have owned (lucky I don't go through women quite as fast....that could get expensive). It's at this point in time I should point out that I have a bottle of vino on board and some of what I may say might not make the most sense...

Bascially i wanted to build a car that was different, fast, a good weekend car and occasional track car. I like Alfas amongst other things and always wanted a GT. But as nice as they are, 1.8 liters does not set my world on fire and to be perfectly honest, these days Hyundi's do you at the lights (the shame of it). I don't need that st. I could have put nitrous on the car, or ripped the motor out and put a rotor, or an SR or an RB or a lexus quad cam etc etc, slapped a turbo on and made 1000Hp, but that's not what I was after. I wanted period, I wanted handling and I wanted as much Hp as the chassis and drive train could take reliably. As it turns out, this is about the 450Hp mark, after that, go spend another 20+K on the drivetrain to keep it together. So I figured I'd upgrade from the 1.8Liter to the 2liter for a head start, then add a large turbo. At 450Hp on a 2 liter you get some serious lag, and this still see's the odd Hyundi topping you at the lights if you get a bad start....not for me thanks.....so the supercharger was given the nod to fill the torque hole.

The whole drivetrain has been upgraded to take the power, and I've tweaked suspension here and there. Most of the work has gone into designing / strengthening and installing the engine combo. It runs custom everything and it's all my design (not that it's rocket science...it realy isn't). But it is well matched. the engine makes 1 pound of boost at about 1500rpm. It makes 7psi at 2200rpm, it makes 15psi at 3000rpm and makes 22psi (or what ever you are game to dial in) at 4000rpm. The engine then revs to 8500rpm making peak power at about 7500rpm (not dynoe'd recently). I can't say what Hp it is making, but I'd guess about 300Hp at the flywheel on 20psi. I really need to get it back on the dyno and tune it properly. My numbers suggest it should produce about 420Hp at 24psi on 98 octane with additive. At this stage it's retarded for saftey and plenty of fuel added....I'm also being conservative as I just hate reading all the bullst about Hp. As far as I am concerned I've reached a point where I'm not sure the car needs more Hp. First gear is a waste of time, second just hands on on good road. If its wet, forget it, 4th gear spins at 100mph on quarter throttle.

I had an issue with voltage on the car when I was out at the track and that saw the engine missing at 5500 (kind of a rev limit feeling). Consequently the vids that can be found on youtube were at the last dyno figure of about 250Hp, which the car made at 5500rpm. More vids will be up in a month or so as I have another track day and dyno session planned.

It would have been SOOO much easier and cheaper to use an SR engine, but where's the fun in that, I would have just turned into a cheque book racer. This combo has forced me to make pretty much everything, which in some cases has been expensive, but over all, the car owes me about as much as a Hyundai with a set of wheels and a body kit...and I know what I'd rather have :-) (Peace Hyundi brothers, it's all cool)....if you count my 1500 hours as no cost!

Radiator from JB Camira
Oil Cooler from Saab 900 Turbo
Maganaflow exhaust likened to stuffing a trash can up a Gerbals arse.

It is in the process of being engineered as we speak, whilst I really only want to punt it at the track, I want to be able to drive it there and home again. I'm currently sorting the exhaust as the side pipe was WAY to loud.

I'm loving the comments, thank's all, it's great to see the car is appreciated. I have not driven it for a month so am hanging to get the exhaust finished so I can go to the track and get it back on the dyno, really keen to get a number on it, if only to see how much work still needs to be done to get it to the 420Hp I'm shooting for.

I should say it has a twinspark rear end in it which I rebuilt with a 50% locked diff...it puts plenty of power down given it has so much weight over the rear wheels with the gearbox up back. Crap load of fun to drive.

To the person who asked, the car is in Australia, Tasmania (was in Melbourne when I was living there).

Engine bay is TIGHT, things have to come out a certain way, and if I blow a prop shaft rubber up front, it's engine out time (will look to use a bmw unit to eleviate the risk of this).

This was a flyer my brother dummied up when we were going to get sponsorship from WOLF. They promised us the world (new ecu, free wiring and tune) and then never delivered...yet always said 'yeah yeah we'll get on it straight away'....that was 12 months ago and still nothing. I warn every person I can about Wolf's treatment of a customer who had previously bought 4 of their computers. My next computer will be Autronic...just working myself up to having to rewire the car again!

Old vs new radiator, theres tree thermo fans on this sucker to keep temps in check, still needs some work on selaing things up to handle temps in traffic.

Gotta say I still don't quite get piston heads photo upload system...here's the radiator!

Actually, looking back over these photos, I'd forgotten how much work went into the cooling system. I added the larger rad which required trimming back the rad surround, it was recored with a higher density fin per square inch (8mm vert. between fins), 3 thermo fans were added, an oil cooler was pilfered from a Saab turbo and flushed. Making it all fit was the challenge, with the oil cooler up behind the drivers side headlights, the intercooler in front of the radiator, the intake air filter behind the passenger head lights for cold air. I still have to duct it all so it all works to it's potential, as it stands it's good when road speed >60km/hr, below this on a 30deg day things get hot pretty quick, theres just no flow through the engine bay. I'll be pipeing air in, venting the inner gaurds and looking at a turbodelta style vented bonnet.
