Chevrolet Lumina Coupe S (Holden Monaro)

Picked this up last week to replace my Alfa 166 3L. It's a Chevrolet Lumina Coupe S, 3.8L V6.
Basically, it's Holden/Vauxhall Monaro coupe with different badges and the steering wheel on the left. I suppose that really makes it a Vauxhall Omega coupe! Not the most exciting looking car in the world but neat and I much prefer the way it drives compared to the Alfa.
Nice big(ish) engine, loads of grunt, RWD, leather interior but still plenty of space despite being a coupe. I'm looking forward to this one!

I spent a bit of time on this over the weekend mostly having a go at the paintwork which was badly swirled after (probably) being put through the local car wash. As you can see from the photos, it wasn't very nice. This is the bonnet:

I attacked the worst bits with some GS27 scratch remover but applied it with my newly acquired electric random orbit polisher. It's relatively warm here so the residue dried a bit quickly and was hard to shift so the polisher was used, with T-Cut, to remove it. I didn't take any pictures at that stage as I was too busy.
I then used the polisher to give it all some shine with Turtle Wax Original polish - old fashioned but effective.
Wheels before and after treatment with Carplan "Wonder Wheels".
The bonnet is covered in stonechips which will need to be touched in and the boot is bad enough that it really need to be done with fine grade wet and dry paper and re-polished but overall the car looked a lot better.
This is the bonnet after the "treatment", showing a nice reflection of our villa!
Of course, the very moment I finished a sand storm blew in and dumped a load of sand and dust all over it but you can still see the shine through it.
Here are a few more shots of the car to be going on with. I'll have to see if I can push out that dent in the plastic at the bottom of the front bumper.
By the way: In case you're wondering about the sandstorm, I live in Abu Dhabi !

Yes, it is over 178,000km but as said that's only just over 110,000 miles. The engine is very smooth and very quiet and beautifully simple (OHV for instance) so no complicated/expensive camshaft setup. It has plenty of torque and my (mostly urban) commuting is giving a fuel consumption of about 27mpg. For comparison, that's about 5mpg better than the 3L Alfa 166 that I've got (until I can sell it, that is).
