here's the gig... am in the process of buying a 1973 rsr replica for track days. problem is i haven't got a double garage at home for that and my c4s so i would ideally want to keep it at a track. problem with that is that then i'm always going round the same track.

does anyone here have experience of 'garaging' a track day car at the track and if so what sort of costs are involved and was it fun always going round the same track?

the other option i have is to rent a garage close to where i live, but this car is quite expensive and i would feel nervous about leaving it in some general lock up.

the noise this car makes when you fire it up is unbelievable, and it revs to 10k!!!

I know some keen pork owners who keep their cars at Manthey, ideal for the ring and I think it will take a while before you get bored of the same old track syndrome there.

How the hell does it rev to 10k? How much is the engine alone worth? The internals to allow it to do that will be VERY expensive...

Hmm indeed! thats very serious revs, last proper spec '73RSR engine I know of being built cost over £30k & revved to 9k, but 10k aye currumba.

Er, I may be stating the bleeding obvious, but have you tried asking a track????

Look into storage options with the specialist that will be maintaining it, ive been involved with this for a couple of people, inc a couple of overseas chaps.

Its the best solution, drive normal car to specialist, (or overseas clients fly in & get cab or hire car from airport) get track car, drive 2 & from track of your choice, (some outfits may trailer/transporter the car to & from track for you also) leave it at specialist to do the odd bits & bobs that wil be needed after hard track use, & they then tuck it up safe & sound- often in dehmidifed environment etc for your next session.

Only driving one track all the time would not suit many people, the 'ring slightly diferent perhaps, but to then not be able to do UK tracks- if you live in UK seems a bit of a waste to me & would require another track ready car kept over here..... hmm nice situation

You may be on to something here Lizard....it could make sense to keep a £400 Golf track slag at many UK and european venues... For a £10k investment you could cover the cars, consumables and garaging.

fergus / iguana... engine costing around £25k. went to see it in the car yesterday.... the car apparently only really gets into its element at 6k.

i shall be naming this beast brutus maximus... loud doesn't even begin to describe it. i believe Thor might live in the exhaust system somewhere...

melv, i did think of that but chose to post instead as i thought i could get some comments / feedback about the reality of doing it as opposed to just the tracks sales patter...

ps- Unfortunatly altho a noisy barely silenced 911 is a glorious howl- it will seriously restrict the amount of tracks you can go on.

Most tracks have noise limits, some have the occasional noisy day.

If this is your 1st track car,,,you really are a 911nutter nice one

nevermind the garages and tracks etc
I would like to see and hear a aircooled 911 rev to 10k.
I am sure you mean 8k ,my 911 st and 993rs rev to 8k and that is loud enough, and would probably go bang at 8600.or so
pretty sure no one has sorted valve bounce and oiling for 10k yet in air cooled engine.
talking of rsr reps, there is a company in germany putting rsr reps on the road for £30k,completly revised ,with 250bhp 3.2 motors, they look very good.

point taken... i will duly embarrass myself now... the rev counter went up to 10k and i thought oooh! i was also told it could rev to that, but didn;t try it. got it up to 8k and then my ears started bleeding. this engine is an RSR 3L 315 bhp. the car is costing me around £55k, so i think i'm getting something that not only looks the part but more importantly (with correct suspension set up etc) drives the part...

911nutter,, your new car sounds very interesting...
no dis-respect meant, but as you don't know much about the spec have you had it checked out by someone in the know?
I realise the value of such an engine, but it would have to be a serious replica with many authentic parts to be worth anything like that kind of money IMHO etc...

clubsport, no offense taken - you are right with your comments. if you want to cast a scrutinous eye over the spec have a look at the website www.911classic.co.uk - it's under rs/rsr project.

i know it's currently in rs guise, but they're going to rsr-ify it for me (ie flared wings)... be interested in your thoughts...

That looks superb....almost too good to use on the track!

I would check with Burzel on the authenticity of component parts, he really knows what he is talking about.
