993 Prices tipped to rise again in 2015
Discussion
I had a discussion with one of the Porsche buyers who said that 993's were tipped to rise again in 2015
Looking at the asking prices on Turbos and 9934S and 2S I wonder who is buying them. Anyone
Latest "gulp" price is a 16000 mile 1996 Turbo at £140,000. Last year - what, £65,000 + a bit perhaps
I have a 9934S that is in theory worth £75,000 and a GT3 worth say £140,000
Getting scared to drive them - and that is stupid

That is the problem with the appreciation of cars, their prices suddenly reach a certain level when you become scared to drive them and end up treating them as an asset rather than a thing of joy.
Although not in the same league/classic territory, I often worry about my Boxster Spyder as the prices have risen in the last couple of years. If something were to happen then you have the hassle of:
- agreeing with the insurance company over the replacement value
- months of potential searching to find a replacement (bet any insurance company does not put a price on that!!!)
Hate to say it but if your worried about their value and driving them, get a 944/968/Boxster for some back road fun (yes, I know the engines not in the "right place") and then use the 993 on the very special days.
This time last year most people would have said - just get a 964, well their going the same way as well
George

well I have bought an SL500 2006 model that has all the boxes ticked and was £92K new
Has all I need for a daily drive and more - and a change from Porsche
I had a 2001 SL to assess how much I would like it and I did - so the V8 5,5L will be fun in winter and summer with that full glass folding roof

Check out 356s, they're rising too. For example, there's a 356B Roadster at Paragon for £169.995. I can see why 993s are rising, you get the classic feel with none of the downsides - still quick in real world driving by today's standards, pretty reliable, cheapish to service and not too loaded down with 'driver aids' etc. - best of both worlds.

Let me translate that for you:Porsche buyer said:
Lads - as we've milked as much as we can out of the older air-cooled cars, we can now switch to the 993 and get away with artificially inflating those prices for a year - who's with me?

AYE!
I think to get a true valuation of your classic, put a private advert on PH's & see how many serious buyers you get. As a private seller, the achievable price is always way down on what dealers ask.
I know it's obvious, but having to deal with some prospective private buyers can be a real pain in the a**e.
I had one guy on one of my 14 year old Porsches expecting it to be 'as new', unbelievable.
Sorry about my rant, but I feel better now.

I have had my 9934S for 15 years and would never sell so its all academic what its worth
And the GT3 was the ultimate treat to myself and again never to be sold. Although it would go before the 9934S !
My comments about not driving the 993 and the GT3 are tongue in cheek comments - too big a smile on my face when I drive either
Happy days !

The 9934S was possibly worth £35,000 5 years ago as the economy was not in great shape
If you look at the prices of cars similar to mine ( 2 owners from new, 55000 miles, full Porsche main dealer history) then add £40,000 to that price
That gives a uplift of £8000 pa
But the price is of no interest to me as its not for sale - just an observation to prompt discussion

I reckon the real world value of a 993 turbo with say 60k miles is £75-£80k and I say that as an owner. £90+ is too much IMHO and those are the cars that have been sitting unsold. They have had a good run from £50-£60k 12-18 months ago and have found their level for now in my view. Still, would also be nice to be wrong!
