Why has this Zanzibar 996 GT3 not sold?
Discussion
This has been up for a few months and obviously hasnt shifted yet. Its in the famous launch colour, has a nice spec and doesn't seem toppy in todays market.
So why is it hanging around? Is 70k miles really too high?
Whats it really worth?

It's a lovely car but it falls between two stools.
70k miles is high for a collector --- and it's quite a high price for a regular driver.
I personally love the colour, but it's also a Comfort, and my personal opinion is that it's the Clubsport that will be collectable because it's the equivalent of the RS (there was no RS) --- and it's this model which is the best of Weissach / Werks 1 --- which is what GT3 MKI was all about.
It's also starting to look far more "classic" to my eyes than the Gen2 etc ...
All other GT3's were built as an extension of the normal production line.

prices have (clearly) gone a bit nuts in the last few years...
number of buyers willing to spend 70k on a 17 year old 996 GT3 is going to be pretty limited - what else can you get for the money? quite a lot
personally, I can't see the newer watercooled generation ever getting the top top end that the older air cooled rarities did - but then again if you had told me that 40-50k 964 RS's would be 200k a few years back, i'd have told you you were mad!

Still a very solid example from a highly reputed vendor - so if you're keen on it, i see no reason to hesitate personally. Yes a CS would be preferable perhaps, but really, you could get some aftermarket Recaro ProfiSPGs and have 95% of whats important in the CS and retain the practicality of the comfort.
Edit: just spotted its got buckets anyway, so you are laughing imho!!

It's a ridiculous price, without caveats, and I'm a genuine potential GT3 buyer.
These were slow-sellers in the £35,000 area 2 years ago? They're certainly not attractive at approximately double that.
This very much looks like the top of a bubble to me.
I'll wait for the current madness to end, thanks, which I think is indicative of a lot of potential buyers.
p.s. Love the car, but not the price.

exactly, it is incredible that people think things are a good buy AFTER the price has more than doubled These were slow-sellers in the £35,000 area 2 years ago? They're certainly not attractive at approximately double that.

What do you think a 2.7RS should be priced at then seeing as it's gone up 10 fold since it first came out, or is it worth holding out for rationality in the market to bring that back into line? These were slow-sellers in the £35,000 area 2 years ago? The days of non-story, non trade bid £40-50k GT3s are over. Gone. We've had a very long winter, watch the weather get better, supply dwindle, and prices firm up. No point crying over spilled milk.
It's a lovely car but the mileage is to high for a collector and to expensive for anyone that wants to use and enjoy it.Colour is an acquired taste either love it or hate it.
Also people can remember back just 2 years ago these cars were selling for 35k
Seeing them at such high prices now will put a lot of people off.
Only my opion of course.

Were buckets an option on a 'comfort' model?Edit: just spotted its got buckets anyway, so you are laughing imho!!

Because its overpriced basically, sounds daft, but its that simple, others have pointed out why. There lots of 'ok' cars being offered for top money at the moment in the aircooled world too. £50k for tidy ish 912's with patchy history? Ha ha, i think people are concerned we are near the top, which we could well be.

I couldn't care less, frankly; I don't like any of the water-cooled models and I'm not crying over anything, just telling you why I wouldn't buy a GT3 right now.The days of non-story, non trade bid £40-50k GT3s are over. Seem you're the one that's easily offended, to be honest.
