unfreindly porsche owners
Discussion
having just changed from a tvr to a porsche i can tell one main differance, with the tvr if you ever saw another ther would always be a wave or flash and if you ever saw one parked they would always talk to you usually at length
with the porsche i have now stoped flashing others as i now feel a prat as no one ever waves back and today when i tried to speak to a guy at the petrol station in the exact same car as mine{993 c4s} he just blanked me and drove off if that had been a tvr i would still be there
please tell me that aporsche owners are not like this

When I had my first 911 (late 90s) I think Porsches were driven mainly by enthusiasts. Almost everyone waved when passing. These days Porsches seem to be mainly business machines or MX5 competitors and it does sadly seem to have disappeared. I recently waved at a guy in a 993(surely still an enthusiasts car) in my 911 turbo, and he looked at me like I was a space cadet.
I also noticed that when I had an early 996 911/924/944/928 owners were less interested in acknowledgements (possibly due to previous embarrassment), so I think it's cyclical.
Shame.

When i drive my car in sussex, i find the flashing/waving by fellow enthusiasts much more prevalent...in london - esp canary wharf - the rarity factor of seeing a porsche , irrespective of model, is far less and this could go some way in explaining the perceived "unfriendliness".
However, despite all this - i still like flashing....

I agree with you Simon, the percentage of enthusiasts in Porsche ownwership is a lot lower these days. I know a quite a few owners that are not PCGB members, wouldn`t be interested in forums like this and have no real interest in the marque, its history or competitive background.
It just a car and if someone else (employer) is paying the monthly`s...fine might as well have one!
I don't wave or even lift a finger anymore because you either realise your trying to communicate with a bank manager, not easy, or its another enthusiast who's lost the will to wave. My pride and joy is a GT3 Series 1 in Ocean Blue. It's the only one in the UK so don't worry, If I see you i'll wave back or stop for a chat!

As long has i have been associated with Porsche its always being part and parcel of owning a Porsche that you always flash your lights at another Porsche coming your way. Sadley this old tradition is on the decline and its down to the fact that the Porsche is more of a status symbol that are owned by rich w*****s who dont know the first thing about the history or the Porsche car. If you own a Porsche its not just a car, you should respect the badge and its history and every thing that belongs to porsche if not go buy a Ferrari.

Cripes matey, I have an '87 Carrera. I thought you 993 drivers were all the same!
Except Nel Perhaps!
I'm not sure how to take that Dilbert, but in the doubt I'll take it as a compliment!
Am certainly an enthusiast and on the VERY rare occasion that I see another porker over here in frogland, I flash or raise a hand. Never had a response yet, but generally I've been going past them so fast that they might not have had time to react...

I'm more of a flasher myself.
Could be asking to get your collar felt
Since changing from TVR (only ever come across one Tiv owner who wouldn't wave!) I've also given up initiating waving at other Porkers due to getting totally blanked on numerous occasions (even from fellow 944 owners).
I was followed into the Canary Wharf carpark today by a fellow in a Guards red 964 cab, I was in a Cobalt blue 987 Boxster...a receipe for disaster...but as the lift doors closed the gent popped in and we had a nice little chat untill our paths diverged, restored my faith in bankers with porsches

ok, i'll admit, i don't tend to bother with boxsters/996s/cayennes. Used to wave at 986/996 but never got a response.
What shocks me is how many 924/968/964 drivers don't wave or flash back! Funnily enough 944 & 928 drivers always seem to have a smile and a wave, as do most 993 drivers and all pre-89 911 drivers.
Sorry if this is a sweeping generalisation, all just my experiences around Berkshire...
