On my god. That is as funny as it is horrific!!
you have lost 70 grand on those cars mate. Not good. There is a lovely 996 GT2 advertised on the official Porsche used cars site for just that amount. Puts it all into perspective.
Here's my damage:
2001 Boxster S, owned for 1 year during 2004, lost 9 grand.
E30 M3 Sport Evo, owned for 1.5 years, sold 2003, made 1 grand profit.....but lost 4 grand in mods.
E30 M3 standard car, owned for 3 years, sold 2003, lost 2.5 grand.
Citroen AX GT (my first car, owned as a scrubby filthy student), sold in 2000, lost £2,700.
My current cars are a 993 RS which I won't lose any money on at all, and a 4 year old Mondeo which I bought (cheaply) from my dad's firm for just £1200, so I don't expect to lose any money on that either. I just had 4 new tyres fitted on it today....for £140 including, fitting, balancing and VAT. Beat that lads!

Wow t urbo, I hate to do the math for you but that equates to over £70K! Like buying a new 997S with a few bits, keeping it 5 years and then throwing it away.
Any reason that you change cars so fequently?

Mmm...
But is sobering to think that the amount of depreciation is the same as a TT X50 or a GT2 owned outright.
Being taken in by the shiny new baubles at the OPC is the killer !
Having said that, you are the living embodiment of the operating policy of Porsche Cars GB ! You sum up the business strategy of the OPC perfectly ! By buying and selling from the shiny steel and glass palace of Porsche's, you are paying for the showroom !
There is a lot to be said for avoiding the newest and latest and buying smart. Those with 993RS's or buying 996 GT2's right now look like they are doing the right thing...
Ok,
Own 993 turbo 4 paid 40K 18 months ago. Probably still worth about that.
owned 964 convertible for 3 years back in about 97 lost 7K (plus about £10K in repairs!)
I just look at the fancy new packaging (sorry, the all new whatever the development is today) in car showrooms and remind myself that all these new cars have consumed about five times more energy during their construction than they'll ever use in their life.
I then drive off in my 3.6 twin turbo eco warrior feeling as though I've just saved the planet

said painful things about depreciation
Blimey - you're the king as far as I'm concerned! You obviously have the means to indulge your tastes so it's not the end of the world, but it could hardly be called "wise maney management".
Given the current trend for the manufacturers to engage in a horsepower war, they will undoubtedly lay further temptation before you....

There's no way I'm adding up the costs on all the cars I've owned.
Here's the worst though, it's not a Porsche, but it's the reason I went back to Porsches:
Skyline GTR R34
Cost £32,000
Spend on engine rebuilds, development and modifications £72,000
Total Cost £104,000
Sold for £48,000
Net loss £56,000 or nearly twice the original cost of the car!

Holy FCUK, 72k is a preposterous amount on mods!!!
Here's me moaning like a b@stard to the bloke who wants £5k for a 450bhp engine for my 944 turbo.
Makes me realise how petty my problems are...
Haven't done too bad on depreciation;
944S2 "lost" £4k purchase to trade in over 5yrs
964 I still have but has probably dropped 10k over 5yrs, so over 10yrs £14k depreciation.
Have done less well with mods/running costs, £8k for the S2 and I stopped counting at £30k for the 964

How the hell did you lose £8k in a year on a boxster ??
I assume these were brand new cars & traded in through an OPC ?
Ro.
Yes, pretty much......is the simple answer to your question.
I bought my Boxster S from an OPC, then needed to get rid of the car in a hurry to buy my 993 RS. I got the trade value from the OPC and couldn't believe my ears. So I sold it to my mate for the same price so at least someone I know could have the car at such a pitiful crappy small price, rather than the OPC.

How the hell do you lose £7k on an RS Turbo.... I assume that must have been from new?!
My worst are:
Punto GT owned for 14 months, lost £4.5k!
Clio Sport owned for 18 months, lost £5k!
Looking to sell my 16month old WRX which I bought for £20k, and Subaru have offered £11.5k, so lost £8.5k!
Peanuts in comparison, but all of those were within the last 3 years... and the depreciation alone would have paid for my current car outright!! ..... bugger, I wish I didn't have petrol in my blood!!
Actually, I'd like to edit this part of my previous post, not to be cocky but to show that you never know what life is going to bring!
owned 964 convertible for 3 years back in about 97 lost 7K (plus about £10K in repairs!)
BUT, the 964 gave me the idea for making indicators for it which then grew into a nice little 'cottage industry'. So really, the 964 appreciated by a couple of hundred grand. That must be a record for a 964!
