As publicised on a previous thread the warranty renewal price goes up £725 to £895 from tomorrow. It can be renewed up to 8 weeks in advance (used to be longer of course).

My warranty was up for renewal in ...... 9 weeks!!! (Not as if they picked the date to exclude all the Jan registrations in the first place of course)

Summary of the conversations is as follows>

Question to Porsche: Please can you bend the rule a little given proximity/level of rise/loyal customer etc?

Answer: No

Question to Porsche: Okay can I cancel my old policy early on 23rd Dec (8 weeks) and take the new plicy from then instead so I am inside 8 weeks.

Answer: No .... explanation for answer .... none ... as far as I can tell there is no reason other than they don't want to do that !!

Question to Porsche: Okay can I just take out a second policy from 23rd Dec and be covered twice on the same car for a week or so.

Answer: No ..... explanation ..... can't have two policies on the same car ! (No explanation as to why not though !! If I want to cover a car twice why not ?

Anyone else in the same position ? Its not the increase as much as the dubious rules they are putting in place to extract an extra £170 which get me. A pretty efficient way of losing a customer is to make them feel ripped off.

Anyone wanna buy a Porsche ?

Well, I am in the same boat, but given the rise is 46p per day, I am just going to have some beer and watch the footy.

Be grateful you don't have an M3.

I think even Land Rovers are more expensive than Porsches to extend.

However, at least with BMW etc you get 3 years to start with.

Like I say, its not the price and I am not saying it isn't good value, its the slightly underhand tactics I don't like.

couldn't agree more. I had exactly the same conversation myself and got the same response. I cannot see why you can't terminate an exisiting warranty contract and start a new one, as you suggested, within the 8 week window.

What gets me is the negative PR this gives for very little money. If they just said yes this would all go away in a few weeks! Very strange!

M5 warranty has a £250 XS if I remember correctly..........coupled with a 2100 policy price makes the Porsche warranty look cheap.............M5 prices (e39) appear to be dropping quickly, i am not surprised.

My advice for what its worth is dont bother with a warranty...if the car has full service history and is looked after properly surely all the faults and potential faults are rectified as you go along, otherwise whats the point of a full service history.?I have had one claim on a warranty in 25 years of motoring(valve guides on a poxy Peugeot)and they refused to pay up as it was through mis-use and not a common fault..whatever that means.!If the Porsche warranty is £900 ish per year i calculate that i can have some pretty major repair work done with the money saved.thumbupMaybe ive been lucky but now on my eight year of Porsche ownership without a need to claim.

I'm right on the cusp of agreeing with you about this, but despite my experience with the clutch (the warranty was utterly worthless unless it helped persuade Porsche HQ to provide the goodwill) I still can't help thinking I'd sleep less soundly knowing that if the engine blew up I'd have serious ££££ to have to stump up.

Has anyone had a 996 turbo engine under warranty as a matter of interest?

Also, that BMW warranty is a joke! I got out of my E39 M5 just as that was all kicking off this time last year because they're just taking the p1ss. Having said that I got MAFs, cam position sensors, some rear suspension components and a couple of other things I can quite remember out of their warranty on a ~30k miles car so it's no surprise with their fall-apart pretend engineering that they need to charge the earth for their warranties.

My manufacturers warranty ran out in August so I bought the extended warranty. A month later the MAF failed and was replaced under the extended warranty. Would have cost me around £500 so Im pleased I bought it. The other reason to have one if you have a GT2 / GT3 / Turbo is that the engines are around £30k a pop & I think Porsche is more likely to help you out if you have a serious problem and you've bought an extended warranty...

Just IMHO of course...

Maf is £300..why should supposed GT3/GT2/996TT engines blow up(alledgedly bullet proof ) if serviced regularly and not hammered all the time on track or from cold..equally not many engines blow totally so the odds of a total replacement are low,imo of course.

I agree, my car covers probably under 4000 miles a year, is cossetted and used mostly in a gentle manner, never modified or chipped etc etc. All that adds up to very limited chance of the engine imploding. Although we all know it CAN happen it is unlikely.

That said the main reason for keeping it in the warranty system is for resale. Having a car still 'in the system' keeps the car quite rightly, attractive to a future buyer. In my case I will probably be selling next year, so it would be false economy for me not to renew.

This doesn't apply to all of course. If I had a modified car I probably wouldn't bother with a warranty (from Porsche anyway) as in the event of a big failure they could use the fact it was modified to skirm out of it I am sure (as long as they knew of course).

Do you drive a 996 ? I'm interested in getting one of those, but put off with the all the stories of catastrophic engine failures. OK, they say it only happens on 5% of cars, but that's a big gamble to take when a new engine is about 11 to 12K.

Is not having a warrantee on a 996 a good idea ?? Your thoughts please ....

Oh for god's sake.

Who are "they"...?

Utter b0llocks. There have been rare failures. Buy one. Buy the OPC warranty. End of story.
