Selling 997 S - What price should I ask?
Discussion
I'm about to sell my 997 carrera S, any indication of value for classified section would be appreciated.
The car is a 2004 (54) 997 S in Artic Silver with black leather. Covered 19,000 miles and recently (Dec 06) had it's service at Porsche leeds. Optional equipment is 19" "S" wheels, sports seats, CD changer and tracker horizon. No marks on car or alloys, tyres have 3-4mm left.
Not too sure what right price is for this time of year, but got option on purchasing something different. All replies / advice will be welcomed. Take Care.

Thinking of listing at £46-47k or part exchange route if no interest. Any comments appreciated. Regards, Sagman.
I think £46k is about right. I would put an early good spec car at £48k but you are going to struggle with that low spec especially the lack of nav/phone which most people are after on a 911 these days.
£45k from an OPC is miraculous seeing as they add £10k margin - I would be tempted to take that to be honest although it costs nothing to advertise here for a few weeks and see if you can make another K

Agree.. £45k from a main dealer sounds like a great deal. I would jump at it.
I have a 2005 997C2S with 16k miles. Arctic Silver / Blue leather / manual and very heavily specced (BOSE, SatNav, Phone, sunroof, ParkAssist, heated seats, electric seats, rear wiper, etc etc) and I would realistically look to get £52k - £53k from a dealer and maybe sell privately for £56k - £57k.
Your car would definitely fall below the £50k mark and even then I agree that a lot of people may be put off by the lack of options - there are so many decent spec 997s around nowadays around the low to mid £50k mark that you may take a slight further hit.
I'd go for a PH ad at about £49k for a few weeks and if there's no luck then take the dealer offer.
Cheers - Erik
Sounds like a nice car and there arent many 997S about for sub 50k
I would spend a morning calling round the 20 odd dealers if not done so already and Id be suprised if somebody wouldnt offer you £46-£46.5 subject to seeing it. The one nr Bournemouth used to be good for sale or returns.
Stick an add on Pistonheads and one in Topmarques also if you want to sell privately

That doesnt make sense your car has about £4.5k's worth of extras but you think its worth £7-8k more at a dealer?
Theres a growing section of the population that realise Tomtom is more uppgradeable and flexible than inbuilt systems plus it has hand free capabilities etc meaning the £3k charged by Porsche isnt justifiable either new or second hand.
Horses for courses and all that but I would suggest the purists 911 wouldnt be festooned with options, especially if it makes it £6-8k cheaper as suggested.

The figures I quoted are based on a real offer received from a my local OPC (was thinking of selling a couple of months ago).
I'm no expert so maybe the OP's car is worth more - sure hope so as 997 prices seem to be falling like a rock..!!

Benno - its also a year younger (05 v 04) and within warranty period.
I am sure TomTom is much more flexible (the wife has one and it seems good) but most people don't the dodgy cab look of black boxes stuck to the window with cables trailing everywhere. Which is why the satnav box is the first one ticked for most Porsches and other high-end cars. The purists Porsche would be a CS GT3 I guess, but 99% of C2/C4 cars are used as everyday transport not for track days and hence they are all specced up with a few toys.
We have been told that one is a 54 Reg (i.e. Sep - Dec 2004) and one is a 2005 (no specific so jan on). Therefore the cars may be on the same reg 54 number even? Unless the newer car is a late 2005 - 55 reg of course.
I thought the same about tomtom after my first go with a pda a few years back. the latest 510/710/910 boxes are incredible however as they run for 3-4 hours minimum without any wires, plus show speed cameras, show dialling in numbers from your mobile and so forth
What made me re-evaluate sat nav (as I bought it on my last new 911)was seeing the latest tomtom in action plus questioning the size of plasma television you could buy for £3k in liue of the 3.5" fixed sat nav and phone!!

Guys i think both these cars are worth a good 2/3k more than you think.
I have just traded my jan05(54 plate) 997s for £55k to my OPC.The car had 12k miles and was manual, nav, phone, chrono, sports seats, cost new £69k.I sold the car 1week before the warranty expired and car also needed 4 new tyres.
Must admit i was more than happy with their offer but maybe its because i am getting a 997 GT3 in march?

If you want to sell the car for christ`s sake call us. We would Definately better your bid of £45k and by the look of things would be as good a buyer as many of the private buyers! not sure quite how all this works as we are supposed to be the enemy "stealers". Just to confirm this is a 3.8 engine 997 S.

Glad to hear that I may be undervaluing my car..!
Henry,
Not looking to sell currently but may be tempted in another 12 months. As a blatant favour what do you reckon my 997 is currently worth. What do you reckon in about 12 months? Assume that body/paintwork/wheels, etc are in very good condition.

I think if the OP Sagman listed his car at £46/47k privately as he has said he might, then he deserves to sell it instantaneously ! I reckon that would make it the cheapest 997 (3.8) S in the country bar none. Very few 997 S's available for less than 50k. As Henry has pointed out, there are dealers out there that would happily pay more than the 45k offered by the OPC and probably pay closer to 50k than 45k for that car. It wouldn't be difficult to better the OPC bid.
