I can only have 6 MK2 because of its light, still cannot accept MK1's light. I had never laid eyes on 996 until MK2 came around. I kind of like 996's wide body models such as turbo and C4S. Of course I would like to have a 993 but I think 996 is a all round better car. 993 is better valued mainly because of its rarity and not because it is a better car IMO. That's just me so don't kill me.
996 is my first porker and I'll want to experience an air cooled one day to find out what's the fuss about them. Don't get me wrong, I have always love 911 since I was a boy.

The only 911 fans who like 996's are those who own them !
And? Why is that such a surprising statement? If you like a car, buy one (if you can afford to). Maybe they're the only real 911 fans as they put their money where their mouth is? (and before the flaming starts no, I don't really believe that )
It's a subjective issue, some do some don't, get over it (aimed at everyone )
Personally prefer the 993, but the 996 has its place, the handling is second to none in its now bargain price range, even when the 997 comes down to mid 20's, the 996 will still be popular as it will be even cheaper!.
But the sensible money will always be in the 993's and down, apart from the 'specials' above...

Overrated and over inflated prices for an old banger or modern supercar performance and handling at a bargain price, mmmmmmmmmmm let me think ?
I'll have my fried eggs sunnyside up please lol
While your still thinking don't forget to purchase a warranty for your modern "supercar", don't forget the AA for when the intermediate shaft fails or the cylinder walls eventually break down. oh and keep a spare RMS or two as you'll need them as well. Oh and don't forget the continued depreciation....of course that's fine, because money can be chucked away in such a lucrative and stable economy. And if you can get some cheap radiators then pick them up as they'll rust eventually with the stack of leaves that accumulate next to them. Yeah, yeah, I can see the logic in having one. Old banger 993 - well I've had mine 4 years and how many issues have I had - let me see how many hands I need to count the issues on.....oh, uh none, I've not had one single problem....how bizzare for an older banger. I'll have my fried eggs sunnyside up please lol

1. These aren't a case of 'eventually' - many engines last 150k miles and beyond.2. Keep a spare RMS or two as you'll need them as well.

2. All 3 996's I know personally - they haven't had any RMS work. Same for many.
3. So I can pick up a 45,000 mile MkII 996 for £19500 - how much for the same mileage 993? 26-27k. What was that about throwing away money?
4. Very rare problem, not many cars get this at all.
5. Obviously this isn't the case, but it is getting on a bit now.

Don't get me wrong I like 993 Turbo's and above but they are getting on now and starting to show their age. I think the 996 shape is sleeker and more modern and the performance and handling moved the game on considerably.
I'm not even ageist as I prefer to have a F355 over Ferrari 360 but I do get fed up with 993 owners thinking they have a superior car. Maybe its an age and beard thing with them as most would have been in their 30's when the 993 was new lol and its the car for their generation.
Personally I wouldn't waste the extra money they demand and rather have the more modern and better performing car.
You pays your money and takes your chances
