I've just bought some poverty Pork…

On my hunt looking at potential Caymans to replace the M3. I came across this and it got me thinking…this would be really stupid to do right?

That does look nice assuming the Service History is comprehensive, but I've got no love for the aftermarket DRLs in place of the original Indicator / Fog Lamps, and what the hell are those exhaust tips about? Gah.https://www.mssupercars.co.uk/cars/porsche/911/car...

If you want a Cayman - Yeshttps://www.mssupercars.co.uk/cars/porsche/911/car...
Otherwise I think the simper 3.6 is often overlooked. 18 inch wheels and full height suspension should be nice. Radio knobs and AC controls look good - normally shafted.

This is up for auction again. Didn’t make reserve last time. Can’t recall what it was though

Not sure if allowed, but thought this would be a good place to ask.
Any advise on where best to sell and the price level for an early 2.5. Bodywork is tatty, but car drives well. Also fairly high miles at 136k.
Prices seem all over the place on ebay and trader, but I am aware asking and actual selling prices can be very different!
Thanks

Autotrader has never been that successful for me - I think it is better for more modern cars/commuter stuff.
eBay has been better for me selling more interesting cars. Have a look at the completed/sold listings then pop it on for a fair price. Better to start too high and drop the price than vice versa. If you really need to get rid then do an auction, cars sometimes do get bid up quite high if you're lucky and her a couple of interested bidders.
Obviously give her a good wash and polish and take good photos, and write a good description.

I hate selling cars
I do however constantly dream about buying more so I can maybe understand the mind of the buyer
Lets face it no one needs a sports car so this is purely driven by emotion
Don’t know if there’s a limit to what people would call poverty pork, recently picked this base 2.7 Cayman up. A few niggles (thin steering wheel, few warning lights that pop up intermittently) but overall really getting on well, booked in with ePorsche for a check and service.
Is a nice enough place to be, and prefer the interior over the 986. Still really like seeing the haunches in the mirrors and car seems to shrink when driving.
Not the quickest porker but has definitely sold me on the brand so far

I don't get the appeal with "fastest" cars to be honest. Is a nice enough place to be, and prefer the interior over the 986. Still really like seeing the haunches in the mirrors and car seems to shrink when driving.

If tracking them yeah, why not. But for a road car something you have to work a bit, keeping it in the sweet spot gear/revs wise, is far more fun.
I really fancy a manual base 981 Cayman.
I keep thinking about swapping my 996, but the reality is I really enjoy it, and think a 2014 Cayman would give me something a bit newer while still keeping it a car that is not too fast and needs working a bit.
I tried a 991.2 Carrera S the other day, and it is nice, but definitely looses a little with the turbo and all a bit effortless. Great for an everyday car, but not for me as a fun 2nd car.
Mate has a 991 base Carrera and that is more fun, but thinking I could keep the 996 and get a base Cayman as well and still have some money in my pocket.

I have a PDK 981S and manual 996. Total different cars. I think the 981 will wipe the floor with the 996 especially in a twisty section. Not having to think about gears does make a difference. But there is probably not much in it. The newer car is just so easy to throw around but as I mentioned in a twisty section you still need to think about everything else and may have more brain time as gears are not on your mind. I am definitely quicker in the 981. But that's me. You could be different. Mate has a 991 base Carrera and that is more fun, but thinking I could keep the 996 and get a base Cayman as well and still have some money in my pocket.
But I was thinking a base 2.7 981, and going manual again rather than PDK, so it is still a bit of an effort to keep the speed up.
I will probably end up with a 997.2 or 991 in the end, but I really enjoyed the base Cayman, I liked the fact that it wasn't "power on tap" if that makes sense?

The only comparison I have is a passenger ride at Snetterton in a GT3 which was v v fast. Am trying to get on with the Cayman and hopefully spin less than when I was in my MR2!
For the road the base car has been fine, great in the twisty bits, am not interested in going as fast as possible either![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
