Picking Up A GT3 Today
Discussion
Well yesterday was an experience to say the least.
Right from the off the car felt a lot lot quicker than my Cayman did, as you would expect. And even though it was only running Michelin PS2's (the Cayman was running SuperSports for the last few months I owned it) there was still a surprising amount of grip. Right up until the point I found myself with none at all diving into the middle of Cascades. That was a real sphincter workout moment as the bonet whistled mere feet from the Armco. I have uploade footage to YouTube for those that can't resist a good near miss vid.
There is still a lot for me to learn about the car, but then that's going to be the fun bit. Learning to trust the amount of rear-end grip out of corners is probably the biggest challenge and learning to feel comfortable with the car sat with a few degrees of slip on the exit of every corner in order for the car to fire me onto the next straight. But I have to say, apart from the one strange moment, the car is very confidence inspiring and I felt good about just jumping in and going for it.
Anyway, here is my first flying lap attempt. This was from probably my 3rd session in the car, quite early in the morning:

Yeah ok but i bet you live in or near London...?
Where Jack & I live in Cheshire, if you leave your nice car outside, quite often a neighbour will wash it for you.
My RS is parked outside all year long in Central London like a lot of GT3 around the neighborhood. It's all good and yes they do get all dirty: but that's a good excuse to wake up early every saturday at take it for a wash keeps it running even in winter as well eheheh!Where Jack & I live in Cheshire, if you leave your nice car outside, quite often a neighbour will wash it for you.
Hi Jack,
From that video Link it sounds like the tyres are squeeling and back end lappears to be getting loose already.. What tyre pressures were you running ? Mine does this if I drop them too much or when left over lunch and I just go oit with out setting them..... They take about 8-10 laps to get back up to temperature before I can feel the grip come back and the squeeling goes away. Obviously a lot of things come in to play like ride heights and geometry setup if you have exceeded the amount of grip due to not enough camber and the tyre is rolling over then ot would squeel too.
Get it setup and lowered down to a more track focused setup.
I stock the cup splitters as I am now on my 7th one !!!! You may need one too once lowered below standard
Nice looking beast, you just need a RS wing now.....
Mike

I h'n't all my shifts. So yes they are rev matched. When it spun I was on a balanced throttle, no brake, no gear change, no steering input, nothing.
Strange. Spins in the dry in a properly set up GT3 are normally due to excessive trail braking or lift off - it is surprisingly difficult to get the back out under power unless you want it to break, or hit some damp / oil etc. Listening to the tyre noises on vid suggests your back end is unstable as your brake into the corners ( just a guess so don't flame me) which would point to a) a shot LSD (common) b) over inflated tyres, or c) wrong geo.drmark said:

or being too aggressive on turn in. Which it looks like on the video to me a little but it's very hard to tell on these things, if not a new diff pack would probably be the next suggestionLovely sound hasn't it? Congratulations to the op
The tyres are squealing because I'm going fast, Mike...
And those RS rear wings look ridiculous....especially those dodgy Manthey ones, so I've heard...
Definitely room for improvement in both driving, geo and tyre set up. I was running hot 30psi all round, by the way and the spin was after about 3-4 hot laps. There is a little twitch in the middle of Old Hall just prior to spin, plus there was mud on the track in Cascades. It was there on the previous lap but as I came in I didn't see any so assumed it had all gone... Oh well, at least it's not like I've only had the car a week or anything :-)
