interview with Wolf States that the gt4 will be homologated for racing and is being developed by the Motorsport team. based on that the gt4 RS is now a very good bet as the last hurrah from the 981 generation.
this is all music to people's ears.
I admit that a GT4 RS would be immense. Truly the RS 4.0 of Caymans. It would also make sense to have the GT4 as the volume model (relatively speaking) and close it off with the 981.2 GT4 RS as the ultimate swan song. Oof. Let's face it, Porsche is well known for always dangling another newer, even shinier carrot on the stick.this is all music to people's ears.
Packaging a N/A 6-cylinder in the 981.2 shouldn't be a problem either now that it's confirmed that only the smaller Boxsters/Caymans will get a 4-Cylinder Turbo... for now. And Weissach has stated numerous times that RS cars will remain N/A in the medium term. Makes sense since they don't have to care about Co2 emissions with the few cars they sell.

Hatz confirmed that the much-scooped Cayman GT4 is indeed on its way and scheduled for a late summer or early autumn delivery, perhaps at the Frankfurt motor show in September.
He also confirmed the development of the car had come under the direction of the Porsche Motorsport department, making it a full member of Porsche’s elite sports car squad, currently peopled by the GT3 and forthcoming GT3 RS.
The car is therefore far from a simple replacement for the old Cayman R but will instead be substantially more sporting and feature not only a considerable drop in kerb weight but also a substantial rise in power.
When asked if 400bhp was likely, Hatz replied: "Perhaps not that much, but in that area."

Can Lotus pull one out the bag and outdo the GT4 at Geneva ?
About a year ago I was told a new evora was to be at goodwood, but then lotus hit bad times as normal.
This was from some one very high up at Lotus face to face.
Now they say a new lighter 400bhp car to be at Geneva !
I really like the special edition Exige but for me it will need a double clutch box and a bespoke engine to match the gt4. we don't know what other goodies the Motorsport team are going to throw into the gt4 but those two things look beyond Lotus unless they are going to source an engine other than one from a Toyota Camry. 20kgs lighter than a Porsche 3.4
It may not be the new kid on the block, but it's fking brilliant in that car.
the engine is not 20kg lighter !!!It may not be the new kid on the block, but it's fking brilliant in that car.
it's a dated engine, that is a FACT, did not say if a few people liked it or not, I would rather a newer engine NA which was lighter and in the lower tax band and did more than 20mpg !
3.5l engine with only 276bhp !! so they have to add a SC on it to get to the same as a NA 3.4 dfi enfine !
it's old hat.

The thing is, even with just 276bhp it'd still be better on track than either of your 3.4's.
And it'd out break (sic) the 3.4 of your choice at any trackday.
You chose the wrong car
Perhaps Lotus will surprise us and buy their engines from Audi. Sorry, I mean Porsche.

Bodes well for the GT4 if the vanilla GTS is already skinning every 991 on the technicals bar the GT3 and Turbo.

Throw this in while you're at it Carl...Bodes well for the GT4 if the vanilla GTS is already skinning every 991 on the technicals bar the GT3 and Turbo.
Panorama from PCA has this to say about the GTS - obtained courtesy of drPhilGandini on Planet-9
Its surprising how much of a punch the GTS is packing now. As expected, it gets spanked by the 991 GT3, especially in a straight line. Its pretty shocking how fast the '3 is in a straight line actually, it must be running 500bhp to do 0-60 in 3.1sec on cups. My turbo does it in 3 dead on road tyres!
Anyway, plenty of scope for the GT4 to really cement itself as a 911 muncher, especially as the 991 50th Edition runs with 430hp at stock.

Got to love fan boy comments. I,ll not get into a Lotus debate on here with you cannot be arsed. The thing is, even with just 276bhp it'd still be better on track than either of your 3.4's.
