Is this how it's going to be - Porsche hate??

I used to get agro at work over 20 years ago along the lines of "We must be paying you too much" for turning up in a 12 year old 944 Turbo, which at the time wasn't really worth that much. No-one thought anything of the company issued A4s / 3 & 5 Series BMWs though. Just the bloke with his 12 year old Porsche who was being paid too much.
To be honest I used to get this from my immediate boss at work back in the late early 2000's.Had a Chimaera as a daily, he had a string of crappy basic stuff, Megane, Rover 200, Pug 405, which I think in truth he hated so I used to get the snidy comments. However whilst I liked a couple of pints at the weekend he would quite happily piss close to £100 on a night out, inc £20 taxi fares.

When I first got my Boxster I took it out on a client visit (as it was a sunny day). He came out with the a similar attitude 'your fees must be too high son'.As I thought he might be someone who liked cars (as he had an Alfa 159) I explained how I'd managed to get it at a bit of a deal and he softened, I then went on to say that for the work they wanted me to do I could also do a good deal for them (albeit in a far less wky way).
Whilst I got the instruction, the firm went bust a few months later and I earnt fk all from them.

It's just resentment, pure and simple. Lots of people want a Porsche but very few realise the goal, and many often hate the ones that do.
The amount of diesel Audi/BMWs or large SUVs I come across who refuse to move from the outside lane on a clear road is ridiculous. Somehow being overtaken by a nice car is going to bring their whole world crashing down...

In 1991, I bought a new M100 Elan, it was my pride and joy. I used it as my daily. I still have it! I worked for a large engineering consultancy. After I resigned, I asked my line director if there was any bad feeling amongst the other directors about me owning my Elan. To which he answered in the affirmative. Apparently it gave the wrong impression to the other employees and would be clients. It didn't matter that I didn't send my kids to private schools, had expensive carribean holidays and had a swimming pool in my back garden.
How fickle people can be!

You can't upset the order of things without betraying that you don't believe in their version of the order of things. Thoughtcrime! How fickle people can be!
Meanwhile, you serenely get on with enjoying your life.
Sapphire Blue GT4 here.
I live in Sweden, and in general people are far too reserved to shout or sign abuse at you. What they do instead is cut you up on the motorway or pull out on you when they see you coming.
I was once driving 20mph past a school and about 100m further down the road this guy in his driveway sees me coming. He makes the effort to get into his car quickly, then as I get closer, he reverses straight out into the road in front of me forcing me to stop, before taking his time to perform his manoeuvre then driving past me in the opposite direction, staring at me the entire time. Bizarre.
The worst one was last autumn. I was driving down a b-road, when up ahead a tractor appears in a side road. I saw it and started to brake, but then realising the farmer was looking towards me and had fully stopped, my eyes went back to the road. At that point he decides to pull out leaving me no chance whatsoever to stop in time. I was forced to swerve onto the opposite side of the road to avoid him.
I stopped the car in the road and got out, I was literally shaking. I went up to the farmer and asked if he didn't see me. His response was 'Yeah I saw you but you were driving too fast'. I probably was, but that was just insane.
But yeah, as much as I like the car, I do feel a bit of a wolly driving it in traffic or built up areas so I try to avoid. I'm 38 and with the wing it's starting to feel like a mid life crisis car.

You want to move near me. Every other car seems to be a housewife in a Porsche of some sort. They're completely innocuous.
Yep, same near us: the SUV thingy’s are everywhere! No one seems bothered about my 997 nor my wife’s 986 & our shared 964 seems to be almost universally adored.

I drive a 991 GT2RS and I’ve never witnessed any bad vibes from the public-
and if I did I couldn’t care less………..
however, I admit it’s primarily due to the ‘image’ that I’d never contemplate driving a Ferrari
From personal experience I found Ferrari’s are admired but Porsche brings out the green eyed monster in some.and if I did I couldn’t care less………..

Curious as to what ‘image’ you think comes with a Ferrari that doesn’t come with a top of the range not subtle 911 with a huge/high wing on it?

And it’s a different vibe- less likely to see a Ferrari on a track day than a Porsche GT car.

I concede that a GT2RS does not go completely under the radar however it’s still not ostentatious and flash looking like a Ferrari Pista or a Lambo Huracan mid engine supercar.

Everyone knows a Ferrari - they're red and there are no cheap base models. And it’s a different vibe- less likely to see a Ferrari on a track day than a Porsche GT car.
Porsche shape goes from the 2RS to the base Cayman and for most people ( not hyper vigilant car people) they look the same.
Of course the wing shows up but I would bet that many people think it's an aftermarket modification. I have some 3RS and they are never noticed really - just another Porsche same as the last 50 years. My old 2008 car is in very good condition and I have often had people remark that they like the new car, only to be astonished that its almost 14 years old.
The acute observation of those within the Porsche community is sort of like trainspotting...interesting for those who do it and completely baffling for everyone else.

As I said in my previous post I own cars from both and the Red Ferrari only gets positive public response. Negativity seems to be worse on bright coloured Porsches with larger rear wings.Curious as to what ‘image’ you think comes with a Ferrari that doesn’t come with a top of the range not subtle 911 with a huge/high wing on it?
