Don't disagree with any of that - however I would love to know what one of those was like - it's probably £30k all in by the time something like that us finished, so it's not really a financially sensible thing to do, but could be power somewhere between a 996 turbo and GT2 via a NA engine, 2wd and with a reduction in weight at the rear...Would never have it over a normal 911, but as a fun curiosity... Why not! (The noise would confuse a few people too...)

I know Dom went that route with a "GT3-lite" as it were but the cars were on their way down steeply then. Now they've bottomed out does it start to make more sense?
Are you saying it didn't make sense??? Why I oughta!!! All jokes aside... I've been thinking about this again, recently... Reckon £20k would build something cracking!
To be fair, what makes less sense is what paid for my [cough] 'rebuilt' Clio Williams

Seeing as they are still so ridiculously cheap, what could you do with one?
I'm thinking suspension, exhaust and a full interior retrim, save the proper engine work if it lets go.
Something along the lines of a water cooled Singer.
Appreciate it could all go horribly wrong and leave you with something worth less than you paid for it initially but if it was done right?

A lot depends on what you want to use the car for. Ok, mines's a 986 but I've always liked a bit of modification. For a road based car multi-adjustable coilovers just aren't worth it to me. So aside from the usual maintenance and reliability mechanical work I've stuck with the M030, renewed nearly all the suspension arms and bushes, had the front top mount slots modified, rose-joint adjustable rear toe links, more aggressive but not too much for the road geometry, refreshed and lightly upgraded brakes, modified exhaust box for some extra noise and some stainless manifolds and 100 cell cats for a little extra go. Next up is the tried and tested 996 larger throttle body or go for a GT3 one if you already have a 996. For a 'fast road' package this really works for me. On the interior side I swapped to a 550 Anniversary partly because it has a spruced up interior and nicer leather so for me there is nothing to do. Perhaps a 996 50th Anniversary is the way to go but I think they are a bit more than your bargain basement 996.I'm thinking suspension, exhaust and a full interior retrim, save the proper engine work if it lets go.

What did you do to yours? and £20k inc engine rebuild?
On the Blackberry at the moment so can't do a good search but use the PH search function to look for 'Autofarm trackday 996', there may have also been 'clubsport' in the title. It's a few years old now and I've lived in Singapore and the US since then and the car is even in HK... So I doubt the pics work anymore but some might and the text should be there...
There was a thread here and one in Readers Cars, I think. (Must be 5 years old?)
I must have spent well over £30k as the car was £20k of that and had the titanium adjustable dampers, carbon buckets and all that jazz... Knock £10k minimum off for prices now!
I'd do it again, I reckon. Back then it was GT3 money but now you could probably do something nice for 50% GT3 money, which is probably the reason so many 964s became RS recreations as RSs got more expensive and base cars got cheaper! I'd maybe strip to a shell and seam weld next time though!
Ed - I am staying with my Dad in the G'ming at the moment as I have been deported (barely joking) from the US, so we should meet up, shortly.
