DMS Porsche 996TT in EVO
Discussion
I have been thinking about this a while now and believe that perhaps 75bhp is very possible with an X50 KKK 24 car. In standard form the X50 and its turbos are relatively unstressed, case in point the guys in america are running incredible bhp numbers, so in theory i think that 75bhp is possible from just a chip change, and with the X50's already strengthened gearbox I think there would be no problems
The stock KKK 16 996 turbo however i would be surprised to see more than 50bhp gains from a chip and exhaust combo
Now all we have to do is get these guys to brunters.,..
all the best

In turbo cars chipping basically reduces to upping boost. So a standard 996tt at 0.7 bar produces 420bhp. A simple approx. would be (1/0.7)*420 if you were to up boost to 1bar. Clearly an approximation but it is easy to see where bhp comes from on turbo's.
1.2 bar anyone?
Personally I would want to see the changes made to ignition/fueling/fuel timing/compensations etc before i'd pay money for it. Making HP is easy, keeping pistons and valves apart is less so....

Sorry UV, but thats not quite right, you need to add the atmospheric pressure of 1.0bar (approx).
i.e. from 0.7bar to 1.0bar is in reality 1.7bar total to 2.0bar total ie an increase of 17.6% or from 420bhp to 494bhp.
In reality the turbos efficiency is reduced at higher pressures, so the air is heated slightly more, so the actual power gain is slightly less.
Guy (Who spent a sad amount of time and money on 5 different turbo set-ups on just one car......)

I have just bought Autocar tonight, and do you rememebr the article that we were promised about a chipped 996 Turbo? Well it's in today's copy, it's the DMS car. Mind you, the Autocar story doesn't add much to what we were told in the Evo article in terms of hard facts. The writer likes the power a lot, mind.
Chipped X50 also *finally* made it into this weeks Autocar.
.2 of a second to 100 doesn't sound worth it over the X50 - but a further 2.3 seconds quicker to 150 is astonishing... and 70 % of the power available without voiding the warranty... hmmm now where's that piggy?

It's the in gear times that look most impressive though!
Looks like i've convinced the Mrs that chopping in the Noble for a practical 4 seater 996TT is the way forward

What I was interested in was they said they had done about 70 cars I recall. Given that GForce have also done a load, as well as other Tuners (UK, US and European), it looks like in excess of 10% of all UK turbos (there are about 1400 here) have been modified.
Seems Porsche GB are missing a big market......

'a practical 4 seater 996TT'
Are we talking about the same car? In my TT the back seats are only good for kids up to 8 and amputees.

Yes, but the mrs doesn't know this.....YET

I still say this is risky business as Porsche have to strengthen the gearbox on the X50 upgrade. If you simply add a chip to a standard car, that gearbox is in danger & the X-50 is only upgraded to allow for 450bhp not 500+ !
The cost of an engine replacement in a 996TT is simply
FRIGHTENING. Unless you get a warranty on the engine (alla RUF) I'd steer clear, much as I am also addicted to extra grunt !

Aren't DMS just taking advantage of Porsche over-engineering the TT though? There must be some pretty high margins of tolerace on these lumps?
