18ins wheels on a 964
Not my fault I didnt put them on
My reply was somewhat tongue-in-cheek, however you may care to know that Porsche wouldn't sanction the fitment of 18ins wheels to standard 964s as there was a risk of stub axel, or whatever, failure and sent out warnings to dealers/service with regard to such.
Nice colour.
Does anyone think that it may be worth having the stub axle thingy (etc?) checked over just in case there are any stress-related problems waiting to happen? If it were me, I'd have it checked.

Guys any info on the wheel size issue greatly appreciated.
IS it an issue that needs rectifying?
will I be unlucky if it causes a stub axel failure?
And if I need to go back to 17inch what size wheels and offset is best for fast road handling And the odd trip to brunters maybe ?
The info re: Porsches warnings over 18ins wheels is true; The standard 964 has different hubs/suspension etc from the turbo and RSs for which 18ins wheels were authorised by the factory.
Having said that I have never heard of an actual failure of anything caused by !8ins wheels. There are TUV approved 18ins wheels produced by Cargraphic, Techart and RUF for the 964 and I pressume thet know the issues.
Lots of 964 owners run with 18ins wheels - myself included. Mine's a track car running R tyres and so if there is a problem I'll find it out.
Part of the problem with larger wheels is the weight of them. Design 90 16ins wheel/tyre combination is really light and the suspension etc was designed with that in mind. A lot of 18ins wheels are MUCH heavier ( and this is ignoring the weight distribution issues)and this does the unsrung weight no favours at all.. Take one of your wheels off and weigh it and compare it to a design 90.
