I've had every Carrera realised since 1984, I think the best looking cars are the 964s. 993 is a lovely shape, but the lights detract from the classic 911 shape too much.

To an extent I agree. However, IMHO the 993 is timeless - in part due to it's lights. With turbo wheels and in a good colour, I reckon that someone not overly familiar with 911s would think the 993 more modern than a 996.

It's interesting that you say that.

I had a C2S turbo body, 18" turbo look alloys, etc.

Thought it looked modern until I parked it next to a facelift 996 and it looked really dated. Perhaps the 997 will change that.

993RS and Turbo 4 are fantastic looking cars IMO.
The best looking for me would have to be a 3.6 Turbo II.

The 964 I think is one of the best looking and the Turbo with its wider rear just looks superb and gives it a more agressive look.

The Orange 1973 RS that was my screen saver at work for around a year and the 996 GT3 RS also up there.

Agree, I have 993RS but prefer overall looks of my previous 964.

Hmmm, i have a 993 C2 but i have a realistic dream car and a few unrealistic ones.

The unrealistic ones are
993 GT2
Miura
962CR

The realistic one (kinda) is a RUF RCT Evo, which is basically a 965 3.6 Turbo with subtle modifications...

I'm not biased at all but a picture paints a thousand words so I'll let these pics do the talking...

I've never driven a 993RS, but I've heard they are simply the best Porsche ever.

I appreciate you're bound to be biased, but do you share that viewpoint?

Superb machine, devastatingly effective. If we're being really, REALLY picky (and this is about aesthetics alone), they didn't get the spoiler right did they?

I'll get some sorted ASAP. Only had it a few weeks, and at the moment the wheels are being re-con'd so it's sitting on 18" turbo looks in the meantime. Everyone says it looks better, but it reminds me of an XR3i with Cosworth Alloys. Can't stand anything that's not original (although the spoiler on the back of that black turbo II above looks superb - saw it in 911 and Porsche World years ago).

I'm going to break the trend here and disagree. No, I don't think that the 993 is anything but stunning, but I personally have a bit of bias (I'm not alone here then!!!) in having a fondness for the cabriolet, too. You may disagree, but a quick look at mine and I hope you'll agree it's no ugly duckling!

Jem, that is one lovely looking car.

Unfortunately you have the ideal weather for a rag top. Most of the other protagonists here live in England. It rains here. A lot.

Great car!

Greg

Cheers Greg - roof is off every day, even now it's December!

Spot on, it was in the Running Reports section for several years in the late 90's, and the compliment on its big bum is appreciated.

As you may remember from 911&PW I'm not a Porsche purist in any remote sense, many aspects of the car are non-standard. The carbon-kevlar body modifications helped achieve two goals, one was visual, the other weight loss.

Saw a single 993 in amongst 10 or more 996's the other day at my OPC. The 993 looked very dated, nice, but dated.

If you park a late 993...next to a new 997...next to a facelift 996...

In that order, it would make sense to assume the facelift 996 was the latest car ?

993, in any form is surely the best looking 911 ever?
Not if you have to spend any time looking at the interior IMHO.

I'd say so, for sure. The facelift 996 was going in a good direction, then the 997... Doesn't seem to make sense.

Love the 993 but bought a 964 Cab - which I think looks the mutt's nuts!

Agree, in styling terms, the 997 is a step backwards. Seen a few in the flesh now, can't say I really like the look of them compared to the 996. The 997 just doesn't look like a 'sports car', far too bland.
I think giving the standard 997 wider arches is a step in the right direction, and the wing mirrors I like, but the front is just plain boring.
I liked the 996 from the start, I've always liked the 996 over the 993 (and now 997), especially the MKII.

Always remember the report when a Mitsi owner's son had a go in it and confirmed it "faster than Dad's". Top car.
