What break-in period? There isn't a break-in period I'm aware of. I have had my car since new and the computer (and the OPC) say its not due oil for another 10k? I had no idea there was an optional oil change?
When I got my car I asked the dealer about running it in. I was told categorically there isn't any need to run it in, maybe keep the gearbox in auto for the first 1000 miles if I like, but I don't need to......

Some people see changing oil yourself as a pleasant hobby, not a waste of time. Also buying an expensive car (or anything else for that matter) does not mean one don't try to save spending unnecessary money.
I, like the OP and everyone else, agree that the 2 yearly service should be done at OPC for a multitude of reasons.
However if one chooses to do optional extra oil changes (be it after 2000 mile break in, before tracking or say at 1 year like I did), I see no specific reason to have to take this to an OPC.
Changing the oil is simple enough by yourself (there are DIYs on 6speed) or any independents will do. I supplied oil and filter and got someone to do it for me for £40.

Optional in that porsche don't require it. Mine will have it changed yearly (10k miles) by the OPC in between the 2year services for about £200 all in.Not needed, but cheap insurance, and an excuse to borrow one of theirs for the day, drink their coffee, and mooch around the showroom for a bit.
Wouldn't bother with a service at 2000 miles, unless the car is with you forever (say 100k miles plus) or you're doing significant track mileage.

I think that you are being a little unfair with the original poster. Why pay someone a couple of hundred pounds for a a job a monkey could do when you get some pleasure and satisfaction doing it yourself. The main thing is it that the oil is changed.Pip

Have you actually read the original post? Nothing about pleasure and satisfaction of doing anything himself in there. It's all about the various cost options, DIY being very much bottom of the list. Pip
