Read it an weep:
964 C2 12 months £35,000-£24,000 = £ 13,000
993 C2 12 months £44,000 - £31,000 = £ 13,000
996 C4 12 months £ 66,000 - £ 54,000 = £ 12,000
996 GT3 10 months £ 80,000 - £ 68,000 = £ 12,000
Audi RS6 9 months £ 62,000 - £ 58,000 = £4,000
996 TT 12 months £ 90,000 - £ 81,000 = £ 19,000
Ferrari 360 8 months £ 103,000 - £ 87,000 = £ 16,000
Total= £ 89,000
This doesn't include the early 205 GTI's, Corrado's and 4 x 4's. Just purely the sports cars with average miles for the marque. No stupid mods or colours. All cars bought outright with no finance.
And it's going to get worse with the market the way it is and production of the marques stepped up.
Makes you think 'eh.

You bloody maniacs! I felt bad loosing 2k a year swopping cars about, lol. Mind you, it helped I bought cars with waiting lists. I feel like scrooge now by comparison to you lot.
If I'm the the position to put a large amount into a car, rather than invested, it will be a classic at the end of it's depreciation curve. Those who bought 993 RS models are bang on the money. This is the sort of thing I would do. The key is to be happy with something and KEEP it!

Ok, the highlights after 28 cars in (almost) 12 years:
Capri - £850/12 months/£650 = £200
BMW 530 V8 - £6000/12 months/£5500 = £500
BMW 328 Sport - £16000/12 months/£10000 = £6000
993 C4S - £26000/12 months/£27000 = £-1000
TVR Chimaera - £7400/10 months/£8000 = £-600
All the rest of my cars i've lost a bit, but usually in the region of £500/year (or part thereof).
Am i just lucky?

i worked out a year or so ago that i had just pipped the 100k mark in depreciation since 1997.
add the loss on my current c4s if is sold it now and i'm looking at a loss of around £120k.
The more frightening way to look at it is by saying to net £120k, I need to have earned around £200k....
rationalise: can't take it with you when you go, if you can afford it and enjoy it do it, you only live once.
happy

Quite so, but if you'd saved that depreciation over the last few years you'd have a 993 GT2 for weekends by now....sorry
VS
it's taken me about 8 years to lose that money!!! i can't spend 10% of my life waiting to buy something for the weekends!!!
when i want something, i want it NOW!!!!!!!!!!

BUT, the 964 gave me the idea for making indicators for it which then grew into a nice little 'cottage industry'. So really, the 964 appreciated by a couple of hundred grand. That must be a record for a 964!
I like this logic! 10 years ago I bought a 1961 356B Super 90 for £4000. It had a battery drain problem, so I bought a brilliant little battery cut-off switch in the US. I then tooled up and sold 100,000 Discarnects which started my bling business!

Oh, and I sold the 356B for £6000!
My Porsche history goes something like this.
99/00 Boxster 2.5 Bought 39k sold 35k
00/01 Boxster S Bought 47k Sold 41k
01/02 Boxster S Bought 47k Sold 46k
02/03 996 C4S Bought 66k sold 64k
03/04 996 GT3 Mk2 Bought 79k Sold 75k
04 GT3RS Bought 86k who knows....
The biggest loss was the first Boxster S and I just part ex this car. For the later cars I planned ahead and always gave the car to the OPC on a sale or return basis, so as a regular customer they charged me a fixed rate for selling the cars.
So far 17k in depreciation in 6 years, which is well worth it. The other thing to remember also is that only one of these cars ever had a service, and only the GT3's ever needed any consumables. No finance involved, but I guess I could of invested the money in them. Insurace and fuel, so lets say it 30k for 6 years of fun. Sounds good to me.....

You guys are soooooo decadent with your money
I've only had 6 cars in 21 years of driving and I've still got the two 944s:
Renault14 2 years £400-£50 = £350 scrapped
Nova SRi 9 years £6200-£2200 = £4000 stolen
Metro Gti 8 years £4500-£1100 = £3400 stolen
Metro Gti 1 year £1100-£300 = £800 sold for parts
944 S2 7 years £12000-£7000 = £5000
944 Turbo 3 years £8800-£8800 = £zero
Total depreciation £13550
