What don’t you like about the 987.2 Spyder, most owners are keepers of these now days.
I cannot even think about selling that car.

To basic ?

Have you thought about an R8 , they are quite fun and very well built and still look the part.
No I like Basic , I've.had two 997 GT3's a 996 RS and a lotus Exige amongst others .

The standard brakes are not up to GT4 levels so maybe that's something worth addressing but TBH I just can't put my finger on it .

Not sure if I'm sort of 'done' worth cars.

R8 nice car but not really for me and certainly too soft

I hope it will be PDK to save me having to install PDK gearbox in it. Can't be that difficult.

I have been told there won’t be a new GT4 but a GT4RS. This would give Porsche the opportunity to distance a high performance car from the standard 911 range and put something competitive in the GT4 motorsport category. Think GT2 rather than GT3.
Anyone fancy a normally aspirated flat 6 with 430 bhp?
There is a TuV road registered GT4 Clubsport with 495PS from a 4.2L engine but as it has PDK it is only for girls..

Just have to set your mind to an objective and spend some money I guess...

Surely it's the same argument as the GT3.

PDK for ease of driving or fastest lap times. Manual for fun, driver engagement and greater inter-activity.

The PDK is also great on the road.

Drive to work in Auto and drive back in Manual --- which is also saved for the Weekend !

Trackdays ? You can choose ....

I can never call a car with no clutch a manual :-(

I agree.... but when you are 'on it' on a mountainous road with a car with a great dual-clutch auto and you are banging through the gears, hammering the brakes and banging through the gears again and again you cant fail to be impressed.

Its a different kind of enjoyment you get out of a PDK-S equipped car. Its like you have more respect and amazement at its ability rather than your own.

At least thats how I feel.

Money no object? I would have both biggrin

you might buy both to start with then sell the PDK later ;-)

I find I drive PDK cars too fast on the road, for some reason it makes you drive faster lol but done and said all it's all too easy and once you have done it and gotten over the wow factor the cars end up being quite dull :-(, I have had 3 auto's and none have lasted very long in my ownership.

only place PDK works is over rated switch back mountain roads where you can get into 1st gear easy ;-)

doing these roads is dull imo and very over rated in the car world., there are far better places to drive than busy switch back 1st gear corners time after time after time !!

It very much depends on your intended use IMHO.

  • Serious track use? PDK will be quicker and arguably "better".
  • Regular "on it" driving on the road (if you live or travel to where conditions allow it) or regular commuting? PDK.
  • Fun car for road use only? Manual.

I class any car as a fun car though hence the 4 cars I own are all manual fun cars.

I would hate PDK on the track, once you have proved you are the fastest and skill less with it, why bother tracking a PDK car !
nothing more dull imo than tracking PDK's it's mind numbing dull. did I say it was dull ;-)

if cars were not fun items you may as well just buy a 2nd hand Focus for £10k

For "fun car" I mean a weekend car or one that's not used every day, and would choose manual for the extra involvement.

why drive a st car day to day though ?

people ask me why don't I buy a van for work, why buy a van when I can drive a GT4 in the week lol

I have never got the "weekend" car thing I spend more time in my cars in the week days !

people buy £10k stters for 5 days of the week and have a £60k/£100k cars sitting in the garage ! odd !

Some of us don't need to drive to work, so don't assume we're all driving "snotters" as well...

That will be me then!

I have an E46 3 series coupe to travel the 4 miles to the train station and back or to clients offices.
Its also used to do stuff like go to the supermarket, post office etc etc

Motorways, commuting, popping to the shops and back are all very dull ways of putting mileage on a car if it can be avoided.

I quite like the e46, it's a fun car you can drift to the station ;-)

I still like to use my best car for more time mind you, you are a long time dead.

I can safely say that in the couple of years that I've been tracking my PDK CR (mostly Spa and Oulton Park), that I have neither been the fastest or found it to be dull...with the bonus that it's been significantly quicker around a lap than my previous manual 964 ;-)

is quicker more fun though ?

PDK is a choice, it's not a wrong choice, it's just not for me atm.

was the 964 harder to get every thing right over the PDK R, I would guess it was. hence why I like to be more involved in the drive using a manual and working hard for the time.

I think the whole 964 group was shocked when you went PDK on the R :-) but if you like it better that's all good.

I wouldn't say quicker is more fun, just a bonus. Actually, I put the quicker more down to the the 20 year technology gap between the two, more horse power and the different platforms rather than the PDK. I rate them equally in terms of the fun factor. Just making the point that I've not found the PDK dull on track and have no regret about going for a manual R instead. But agree that PDK is not to everyone's tastes :-)
