I'm tempted to take my 997 GTS into RPM/JZM to see what they can do with it. I know ROM have a 997 demo car with some of the upgrades they offer. Don't have any interest in going for their CSR look or carbon ducktail spoiler etc just some subtle upgrades to things like suspension or perhaps a LFW. Or I may just leave it as it is as I really like it as it is!

I know that feeling. I had an Arctic Silver 986, and when I found my 996, it was pretty much spot on what I wanted being a very early 3.4 C2, no sunroof, few toys so light and 'mechanical', but you guessed it, it was an Arctic car..

I adore it, but I do wish it was guards - I think the 996 looks great in a really bold colour; but safe colours were key in the late nineties..

As much as I like the CSR builds, for rhe kind of money they are asking for the top model I’d just go and buy a 996 GT3.
I sold my 996 CSR and eventually bought a (stock) 996 GT3 which I still own! The CSR handles better with a more aggressive turn in and exploitable rear. It also feels lighter footed due to having less weight. Aside from the specialness of the Mezger, really the CSR is one of those things that's more than the sum of its parts.

Obvs if you need to get out soon after the mods then you're always going to take a bath. Also 996 C2 + choice mods is still well shy of 996 GT3 money.

Isn't this what forums are for? You figure out roughly what you think you want to do with the car/what you don't like/what you want to enhance etc, you see what others have done and their effects, you go to a few meets and try a few cars with some of those mods, then you get it done.

Nothing wrong with silver. Get one bought. Get it how you want it. Use it hard as much as you can.

The thing is that you can adjust the chassis in your GT3 to be sharper than your CSR. It already has most of the right bits on it chassis wise. Just a sharper geo would probably do it.

I do see the attraction of building something special from a stock 996C2 but with 996GT3’s still largely unrecognised by the market I’d still rather raise the extra steam and buy one of those instead. The cost of financing the extra cash will be more than outweighed by the increase in residentials. The hardware differences between a C2 and GT3 are light and day.

On saying that the 996 platform is very good and if you were in the mind to, you could create a lovely little hot rod. I’m not a value obsessed person but I’d still be putting my money in GT3 which in my experience is still one of the very best drivers cars ever built.

Sound advice as always. I am contemplating replicating the KW v3 and aggressive set-up from the CSR onto the GT3. Your comment made me rethink though - might be best to see what impact the geo and cornerweighting has first of all and then see about the suspension upgrade as a phase 2.

If you do decide to go the KW route I’d go KW Club sport. It’s a better damper for the money same calving as the race damper
