I am trying to stick to £15k max, ideally £13k.

What colour is that? Purple-ish? If so I wouldn't mind seeing a pic of it

Yep - a sort of purplish version of arena red - if that makes sense.
The interior is a special order linen with piped amethyst and matching dash / headliner - It was a bit lairy for me at first but now I really like it - its got a real sense of drama about it everytime you get in it- as all Porsches should have - why on earth people buy silver with black leather I just do not understand, special cars should be - well special, I think they're not BMWs so shouldn't be in BMW colours...
Send me you email address and I'll pop a few pic across - have you broadband for big pics?

Will be selling mine if I can find a Turbo 2. LHD around the £12K mark. It was the project car for Porsche and 911 world and you can see lots of articles on it if you look at the following site

www.porsche964.co.uk/

and go to the reviews page (from the menu on the left) click on running reports and its the 17th car down

Slider, you should have mail

Hoges, is yours the black one? If so, a little too subtle for me I'm afraid. The guys that know me will know what I mean

Absolutely nothing wrong with 964 Targas for daily drivers, In fact from early spring until late October there is nothing better than a targa with a cat bypass.

Any with leaks need recovering REcover top cost c£300 or it needs some new rubber seals, do remember that they are likely to be 12-15 years old.

Have a look through the adverts, you will find £13/14k are likely to be scruffy, £2k more and you start getting the good ones

What's wrong with November - March?

Ah, now there's a question. My Ferrari is de-catted and has a Tubi, and sounds incredible ... is there an exhaust treatment on the 3.2 or 964 that is a "must do"?

Maybe not if you're only doing a few miles but if you think they're OK for average-serious mileage then you're either already deaf or you're going to be - or you don't go over 50!

On the 964, it's very cheap... a 'J pipe' that bypasses the rear silencer allowing its removal - saves weight, too. You can also get a decat pipe. They sound like a Le Mans racer if you do this, but they will be circa 105-107dbs from memory so track days are unlikely.

From memory, the 3.2 sports exhausts are more complicated and expensive, but an owner may be able to advise.

My exhaust was rotten when I bought the car so Northways fitted a Dansk SS single pipe system which was cheaper than a standard replacement and sounds very nice indeed.

Trouble is that it's all very nice with the roof off listening to the engine - I could do that all day. The problem is when the roof is on and then having your ear drums burst by the wind noise - that's horrible!

Bloody good point - you've just reminded me why I swore the next one would be a coupe - the Spider is A LOT noisier with the roof up than it is with it down!

Maybe I've already gone deaf, but I don't find the wind noise in my Targa unacceptable with the roof on, even on long motorway journeys. Having said that, I certainly wouldn't claim the car to be a daily driver.

I guess it just comes down to what you define as noisy, and how good the seals are. There's bound to be a big variation on cars that are 15-20 years old.

The cars will definitely vary and it is all relative, but I did have mine re-trimmed and I did work on it to improve it so I reckon it was pretty near as good as it could get. But as I've said before, it is something well worth putting up with for a fun/weekend car, just not a daily driver.

Hope this isn't classed as thread jacking but I'd be interested to know how much the re-trim was and where you had it done.

It probably is but I paid about £100 off e-bay for the kit (I was thinking about doing it myself but bottled it) and then had it fitted at a Trimmer in Reading that was recommended by Northways for £200/250 can't quite remember (for the trimming, not the recommendation).

However, the trimmer did say that it would have cost about the same without the kit - just using his materials and he was quite pedantic so I suspect it would have been right.

Hmm, are all the targa tops black vinyl/cloth or, as a lot of people do with the Ferraris, can they, or are the newer ones, colour coded?

I've never seen anything but black vinyl - I assume that most people try to replicate the original when they get it re-trimmed. Must be possible to change the colour though.
