How can you compare two cars that relate to each other by company name only, they bear no resemblance to each other in what they offer do they?scratchchin
Be rather difficult/pointless to compare two identical cars don't you think?
Or two totally different cars compared only coz of brand and price, dont you think?X5 or z4?.Let me think both 28k...
Happy for you to dissagree but come up with a valid arguement at least. Poster is comparing two, two seater (or as near as dammit) sports/performance cars from the same manufacturer - your example suggests comparing a 4x4 with a sports car (I use the term loosely!). Mind you, you keep comparing your old 4wd bus with sports cars too don't you.

My point is i see no common ground with a 964 and a Boxster...one is a fairly specialist virtual classic car that needs maintaining and a degree of car knowledge, the other is a girls car...have you got a boxster pugsey?
There you go! - you've managed to make a comparison after all. Well done. No I don't have a Boxster but I have owned two in the past and they were both fabulous cars. If I'd known your opinion of them then of course then I would have naturally reconsidered. You no doubt have extensive experience of them yourself.

From what I read, all Pugsey said was 'bus' at some point. He didn't attack you personally with 'girl' and 'gay' comments. Grow up fool.

I merely commented on how somebody could be looking at two totally different cars that do totally different jobs and trying to compare them..for some unknown reason pugsey found that a comment worth having a pop at..equally i find it insulting to have someone having a dig at my car when they owned a boxsterlaugh

Two kayc. That's t.w.o. You seem to have developed very short term memory loss. Sorry to be a while responding but you were so beastly I've had to fix my make up after a little cry and then I noticed my handbag doesn't match my shoes today which set me off again!I find it difficult to argue against your well constructed and considered arguements and would like to apologise for being so hurtfull about your tt - a truly stupendous car. Good heavens a Boxster isn't a real Porsche you say? I shall discuss this with my OPC immediately. That'll be the same one that I got my 997S from and where my new GT3 will be arriving shortly. I just hope the red the GT3 comes in will match my nail varnish.

Now thats out of the way...964 or boxster? The original poster was asking which car would be better? My point is they are SO different that comparison seems impossible.Drive both and take into account that the 964 whilst being a tad agricultural compared to the boxster will hold its value better, however running costs will be higher and reliability lower. The boxster will drive better, potentially be more reliable and only has 2 seats and will never have the iconic status of a 911.....imho of course.

Now that you've done the 'impossible' and compared the two you know what - I agree with you!beer

Both great cars in their own right.
No denying the boxster is the worlds best roadster hands down, forget your Z4's etc the boxster is the daddy.
The 964 at the end of the day is a 911, and if you get a good one with history and that has had all relavent 964 niggles sorted than this is the car to have, in my opinion.
It will also hold its value more and has the class and desirability which a boxster will never have how ever good a drivers car it is.
The 964 is quicker in the right hands also, as is the 3.2 carrera, but you would have to be a class driver, and a novice would fair better in the roadster due to it been mid engined and easier to fling around.

At the end of the day it depends whether you want a classic iconic super car or the best modern day roadster, both good in their field and great brands bow

well

I bought the boxster s

used to have a 964 (C4) and while I loved the 964 I plumped for the box because
1) 10 years newer 2)has that porsche feel and "go" and to be quite honest goes better than the 964 not as agricultural and all this "964 faster in the right hands" cobblers just isn't true.
So much more refined than my ougoing z3M and with the techquipment exhaust has a howl to die for.
Sorry to 964 owners clinging on to the "its a 911" line just doesn't cut it anymore.

if only they made a boxster in Viper Green!

You will have a ball,if you want the Porsche 911 realitythe 964 is heavier more expensive to maintain ,identical performance if you are good but in the real world slower and the boxster is a lot more pleasant to live with.Oh and as for the arguement about what you had on your bedroom walls when you were younger, well i had curtains covered in sperm but i would not boast about it!

Both Porsches, just the boxster is an up to date "924" thats all.
Maybe in 25 years time they will have the same image and value, unlike the 911SC's of that period.
If i was buying a cheap frills 10-15k sportscar for er in doors then you would opt for a boxter, because the end of the day its an everyday run of the mill sports car
Everyone to their own i say.

having owned lots of "sports" cars and many different makes I've never seen such flippant dismissal of other models from the same marque

when I had a C4 it was all "C4's are gay/not as manly as a C2"

by the logic thats being used here then unless you own an original 911 from way back when you are jus buying an also ran! How alike really is the current 911 to the original? Vaguely the same shape and made from metal......

its like watching a football team where everyone slags the team off and never actually supports them

Going to agree with KayC on this one, they are completely different cars/experiences.

There isn't that much to compare, drive them both and buy the one you like.

Boxster S is much more comparable to say an earlier 996 in terms of driving / ownership experience.
