Looking at buying second hand, what are the essential options to look for?

an essential option is a contradiction in terms

sorry, I'm trying really hard to stay off the soapbox but it's proving just too much soapbox

I cannot be the only one here who is terminally fed up furious with posts along the lines of "i'd like to buy a cayman coxster convertible GT3, what are the best options for resale?"

FFS!!!!!

its YOUR bloody sports car. its for YOU to drive, not some other bugger. and no matter what you get, the dealer WILL, come resale time, INEVITABLY tell you that whatever option/colour etc youve chosen is no longer desireable.

Get what YOU want. DRIVE it. Stop OBSESSING about bloody resale values. By the time you sell it, that tw@t Gordon Brown will have slammed a 50% green tax on it anyway and the residual will have plummeted. You only live bloody once. furiousfuriousfuriousfurious

and..........breathe.........

Right on 'soft in the head', buy it because you like it, you'll enjoy it a lot more. If you're worried about resale 'cos you can't really afford it in the first place get something cheaper (996, 993), again you'll enjoy it more.

Best spec.....

Bright orange exterior
Black Interior
Black wheels 19"
Short shifter
Sports exhaust

Utterly unsaleable but I'll take it off your hands.

PASM does nothing for me and if it is a 997 I would not even contemplate getting the car with that suspension. Sport mode is too extreme and sends the front of the car bobbing up and down like a yo-yo.

I would want a sports exhaust (porsche or Tubi etc etc) and possibly cruise control (specs cameras are a real pain without it) on my next one.

My ideal next S would be as mine with -20mm and Tubi plus body kit.

And the whole point here is that the OP is buying secondhand anyway! If it's a dog spec that should be reflected in the price he pays!

In fact, buying secondhand, if you're not fussed about the spec (which presumably you aren't if you're asking everyone else what to get) there is a strong argument in favour of buying the dog spec - it'll be cheaper and lose less come resale!!

Agree on the above. First get what YOU feel is important to you. Often there is a difference between things you enjoy and for what other people pay come resale. PSE is great but does not really up the price.
Sport Chrono is great as the electronics makes the car feel much more aggressive. Porsche could, however, spared us the tinseltown acne spot on the dashboard and halved the price...
