7.4s to 100mph! Can't be too far behind a CGT!

No serious attempt to get the weight down though which is disappointing.

Those are impressive stats for a standard Porsche production car (if you know what I mean). Not far off AdamT's Ruf R Turbo. And this one is for the masses!!!! (Comparatively speaking wink)
Agreed, very impressed.

Indeed.

I wonder what RUF et al will be able to do with it? Surely 630bhp on standard internals should be within reach??

If they have strengthened the standard internals, will provide a great tuning platform.
The variable vane blowers are certainly the forward, wonder what they will produce with a good map!

Was chatting to one of the 997 GT2 test drivers, recently.. who reckons the chassis is leaps above the 996.

I doubt they will have strengthed the internals for several reasons,

It would cost alot.
Theres absolutely no need with 530bhp, and 500 torques
Porsche wouldnt do this as it would, in a single swipe, remove the main hurdle to making big bhp out of the 996/997tt engine, 700b hp+ cars would be a much more common thing than today...(large generalisation on my part but you get the idea)

I have heard that the new Variable vane turbos are very delicate and actually not that great for mega bhp, and really tricky to tune. I cant access the 6speedonline site- so i dont know, is the new GT2 using the new turbos or KKK24s?

Dealmaker,

Ruf wont make a car with more than 560bhp on standard internals. Im sure others will gamble on it, but not ruf.

Adam, apparently GT2 uses Variable Turbine geometry, they have a new "expansion inlet manifold" which differs from the 997TT set up, also runs 2.9 psi higher boost pressure and uprated intercoolers...according to the blurb..

I saw the PDF down loaded here with details..... http://wuzup.com/gt2/GT2.pdf

(Mods please delete if the above link is inappropriate? )

Once you get the file that should keep you busy this morning Adam, they really have put some effort into this car smile

I guess Porsche's attempt at preventing the 997 receiving the widow maker handle.
Try reading the brochure smile , as it specifically states that both TC and PSM can be fully turned off and will not re-engage even if the ABS is activated.........
So Guy, you still going to get one after seeing this brochure? Is it everything you expected, and more, perhaps?

Would be totally surpised if there was no clubsport version for Europe. I know that in the US, they have a type approval issue with roll cages, but over here a lot of people are going to want to track the beast.. Which means buckets/harnesses/cage.

Is this the most powerful 6 cylinder in (mass) production ever? I'm trying to think of another.

If it is, this might very well be the most powerful 6 cylinder for the future as well, since Porsche will be switching to 8 next time.

My first thoughts were 'another Porsche - looks exactly like the last one'.
But actually - I was wrong. This one does look different, but keeps the iconic features which all porches have.
I like it, it's been on a diet.

One thing I would tick on an options list (even though it is NOT an option!!) - re-instate the 2 small rear seats. At least that way I can put a 3rd person in for those short trips when required.

On occasion, I have to pick the kids up from my in-laws on the way home. I need that 3rd seat for that, which means I can never own a 2-seat car as a daily driver. frown

I could manage a Mclaren F1.... smile
