do you not have to upgrade a few other bits on the car to make the most of this remap? i.e clutch, exhaust, diverter valves, headers , hoses etc?

The map itself is the key thing - Exhaust will help make the most out of it, and the rest are all ancillaries that have value, but are not essential to do immediately so long as the existing ones work.

Depends on how long you want the engine to last.

Changing the dv's, headers, and hoses has nothing to do with making the engine last !! The engine will take a simple remap all day long with nothing else needed.

However, it will put more stress on certain things, so changing hoses and dv's is a precautionary measure to move to upgraded parts better equipped to deal with the extra boost. Leaving them stock however won't jeapordise the engine at all.... however it may lead to you being on the side of the road one day waiting for a recovery truck if your stock hose from 2001 pops out for instance.

Indeed everyone has a view, but seriously, if anyone thinks that a decent 40-50hp ecu tune is gonna start stretching a healthy turbo engine, they simply don't know this platform.
