Hi Nick,

I can't say I'm over keen on the looks of the Cayenne though I wouldn't go as far as to say it's ugly as others have commented.

A friend of mine has the V8 turbo version and it was not so much the straightline speed that impressed (which you would expect given the power/torque on tap)but the way it went round corners at high speed with so little roll.

Purits may scoff at the idea of a Porsche 4X4 but I read somewhere recently that strong Cayenne sales have compensated for falling 996/Boxter sales.

Congratulations on your purchase.

Geoff

thanks for the varied comments guys - its interesting the reaction this car has provoked, not just here but during the three weeks ive owned it. Not one person who ive spoken to (probably 80 or so people so far) have said its ugly, not even when asked to be brutally honest. Im at work looking out at the car straightin front of me and i dont see from the front at least where the difference is - its not that dissimilar to any other porsche "nose" - its just jacked up higher!!
Exterior looks aside i cannot fault its interior (and after all thats where i spend most of the time), its comfort, its gadgets. Ive driven the X5, the ML, the range rover, lexus (yuk) and none of them compare for driveability, handling and ability. In any case - its good to have something thats a little different too especially with the huge number of x5's on the road nowadays!

Certainly if it is compared to other 4x4's then it isn't IMO.

I didn't want to be the one to say that...

Anyway, glad you like it Nick, honestly. But I think there's a lot of people in this forum who would much rather Porsche had built a genuine M5 rival, instead of a me-too school run special.

After collecting the CT from Leipzig. I would like to make the following observations. The Factory makes 110 Cayenne a day. The car is proving to be successful in sales terms. The build quality is reflecting the technolofy and investment in the Leipzig Facility. The Carrera GT production line was also fascinating to see.

THe track and 4X4 instruction gave us a good idea of the cars awesome capabilities. Faster than my wifes Boxter S tip sportster, and the able to handle big terrain the car is hardly a me school run bus. On the Autobahn at 140 the car was very stable and quiet. As for looks , I have jut ordered the Turbo Coupe. Not as good looking as the Ferrari or AM DB9, but for my money looks are subordinate to ability. Love my Cayenne

Glad to hear someone else loves their cayenne!
Been driving all over the place this last week - done over 1000miles and this cars ability and qualities just keep on impressing me! four weeks or so into ownership and i still read the owners manual at bedtime!

Nick,

Congrats on a wise purchase sir. If you needed or wanted an SUV I do not think you could go far wrong.

IMHO the looks have grown on me and I rather like the look of it. I agree with Iguana, dropped it looks even better.

Floridians clearly agree if the number I saw on the roads on holiday was anything to go by.

Best of luck with it.
