How do you find the noise on long motorway runs Steve?

I found my old 996c2 which had Gemballa back boxes droned on so, as much as they were very loud fun sounding, after an hour or so they started to give me a head ache! I suffered it for the performance gain, but this time around I want to make sure that they are not too loud.

Actually I don't mind it at all but then I have come from a De-catted Cerb with sports pipes. I'm not kidding I had to wear ear plugs for the drive down to LeMans. Stupidly loud. The cargraphic system is a good balance which adds the the experience.

I do miss those flames though

Cool!
Have you guys seen the new Stainless system in August GT PP from Tranchet Trading?
70mm tubing, 130mm cats, adds 24BHP/25nm! It looks really good. Might give it a go.

Sounds about right, it looks beautifully made. The Cargraphic costs about that though I'm not sure as mine was already fitted when I brought the car.

I see from your profile you're going to do some mods? Are you getting them done at the same time or one at a time? You'll have to let us know how they go.

Yes, my car is a 2000 manual. I've fitted the short-shift kit and the sports airfilter myself, so next is the exhaust, then I'll get it chipped.

I spoke to G-Force about the tuning process and they recommended changing the exhaust before chipping it otherwise you could have the situation of wasting fuel down the waste gate and/or creating more heat due to the exhaut flow limitations.

They said, that a sports air filter element and exhaust would bring it to about 450bhp, then chipping it would take it to @511bhp. That's as far as I'll that this car, as beyond that is serious money.

We'll see how it all goes.

It's a pity you never made the rolling road day it would have been good to get another baseline car. Have you run it since?

How do you like the short-shift? Which one did you go for? Was it easy to fit?

Yeah, it is a shame I missed it.
It is a bit of a trek from SE London too, so I won't get there to benchmark it until I get around to getting in chipped.

B&M short shift kit,(they are the best design & quality) quite easy to fit if you're a hands-on sort of chap. You need to remove the centre console in the car, which has a few hidden screw and care has to be taken. They do give you some instructions with the kit, which are also on their website I believe – not the best instructions I’ve seen!

I bought a cheaper kit for my last 996c2, but it's not as good as the B&M kit, which raises the forward & back pivot point. (I had a look at the Porsche supplied one at the OPC parts desk - exactly, exactly the same, just painted black instead of blue).

I highly recommend them; it’s down to personal taste at the end of the day. IMHO I hate the amount of travel say from 2nd to 3rd in the 996 system, the Short Shift, makes it a breeze to change gear.

The only thing to be aware of, is; as you are basically lengthening the lower part of the shifter, the leverage is increased, so this make the shift a bit stiffer. No real problem, you just have to get use to it. Besides that the B&M is a very smooth operation.

Cheapest place for them is on ebay, otherwise you’ll pay @£150-£200 for one.
