I'm lucky enough to have that very car sat in my garage right now! (your old one I think) - You're right, it is a beaut, and performs amazingly well. Drove it back to back with my GT4 last weekend, and the GT4, whilst also very special, just felt a little soft compared to the GT3
Quite interested by this given you have both cars, when are the times going for a drive you find yourself actually choosing the gt4 over the 7gt3?The 4 is more accessable, it's about 85% of the 3 in terms of mototsport feel. So, when I'm out and about I take the 4 - I have retired the 3 this year, so I can get to know the 4.
Make sense....
Very similar cars, but also very different. Both analogue though

I did my home work before buying the car from JZM last week and I am very confident at the price point I entered the market. Good 997 GT3 RS 3.8 cars are currently being marketed for between 175 -200k and good late plate 991 GT3 are around 145 -150K. The 991 GT3 RS is a step on from those cars in every way and, in my opinion, will always be priced sigificantly above that level.
I also spoke to a couple of sales managers from Porsche dealers before taking the plunge and their opinion is that prices have cooled from the very early 300k cars but, based on recent past history with RS cars, they will not go down anywhere near to list price. I do agree however that some cars are still being advertised at optimistic prices.
It is wonderful car and I am loving every minute with it. Highly impressive steering, sound, feedback, gearbox, suspension with a fantastic mechanical feel which is lacking in almost all current generation sports/supercars. The sound at 4k revs, I am being careful to run it in, is fantastic and I can only imagine what it will be like at the top end.

Scud
i've also got a Scud and my RS arrives this week. Will be interested in your comparison of both, I am wondering whether they are too similar and if I should sell the Scud and by something else.So far I am smitten, I can't wait to run the engine in and really open her up. I drove them back to back yesterday and there are similarities and differences. The RS is more refined and I could DD it for sure. The Scud is a little less compliant and noisier earlier in the rev-range. There are similarities too - various noises coming from the suspension and pinging from stones on the underbody. I really need more time in the RS and ideally do a track-day with them both...
For the moment they will both stay. They look fantastic in the garage together! I will post pics when I get back from the UK and the RS gleams as much as the Scud. I'll feed back more over the coming months as I get more time in the RS.
What a fantastic pair of cars...

To answer the OP's question...
Whilst watching the GT3 cup support race for F1 this weekend the commentator dropped in the following observation.
"... as of course for 2017 the 911 format moves to the new rear-mid engine V8 turbo's built to counter the Ford GT's and new Ferrari 488..."
So - could this be the last of the last (inc the soon to be released 991.2 RS). If so - you could argue buy while you still can!
