I will get one but not until they start to spec the PSE which again is not available from launch.

Why is it not available at launch biggrin ? I mean Porsche is well known for ripping of their customers with options.

The 987 Cayman had rather better steering feel than the Boxster IMO
I am basing it purely on the Boxster 981. I don't recall thinking that that Cayman had massively different steering feel compared to the Boxster in 987 guise...

They never are available from launch. Anyone that buys a Porsche sports car (cant say whether its true for the rest) within the first three months often miss out on certain options being available.

Probably going to get a torrent of abuse for this, for why do so many insist on analysing if it looks like or is inspired by other cars? It's a great looking car. Isn't that enough?

Though in this case it is a particular absurdity given that said option is available on the roofless version of the same car. I am still unconvinced that being able to spend £1473 on a different noise for the exhaust is quite the dealbreaker that a lot of people make it out to be though. The standard car surely doesn't sound _that_ bad... ? I reckon that more of a loss at launch is surely the new non-PASM sports chassis option that has recently appeared on the Boxster?

I was excited about the 987C in 2005, now I'm just ah well for the 981C. It looks good, but I don't have the driving talent for mid-engine...E92 M3 DCT+Competition Pack for me.

Although the Cayman is the worst selling model and also not the best looking, it can be credited for being the best handling and the benchmark that was used to develop the MP4-12c's handling.

Hmmm, I don't know why you would buy the Cayman over the boxster now, as the 981 Box looks so good roof up or down and you can choose.

You can't get away from how much the Boxster looks like an MR2 roadster though!

Different front bumper and that's about it.

The Cayman looks much better IMO.

I'd say you can't get away from how much it looks like a Boxster!

Having driven a 981 without PSE in comparison to my 987c with PSE it sounded very un-Porsche like

Was it? Other than it not being to CMoose's personal taste what are the other number of reasons? I always prefer to drive with the top down if possible and despite the coupe often looking better than it's roadster sibling I would buy a Boxster over a Cayman or a V8Vantage Roadster over the GT. Having had roadsters since I was 18 (I'm 56 now) I don't find open top motoring a novelty, I simply enjoy it! biglaugh

Absolutely, nothing like the feeling of speed with the roof down, those wonderful warm evenings when you smell hay or fresh cut grass (admittedly not may in recent years), getting buzzed by bats as you drive along French tree lined lanes. Drives out on those cold but crisp winter days when the sky is azure blue and just generally feeling more alive. But as you say people will always state hardtops better suit their 100% focused driving style so it is simply a matter of personal taste.

Cayman is a great car. It is like modern day 246 dino. Problem is that there is no much competition if we just look at driver's car in this segment(and exclude tuners). I mean the new Alfa 4C might turn heads of possible cayman buyers and of course there is Lotus. But Lotus is more expensive and does not have nearly as good dealer and service network. 1M is good but that looks boring as any non-Z BMW. If Porsche did put 911 rear lights and bumper to cayman, they would cut 991 carrera sales in half.

I had / have my name on the list (paid £1K a yr ago) for the Alfa 4C...BUT once I saw the (actual) Cayman I went straight for it!! The uncertainty of the 4C release worried me but also can't help thinking that 3yrs down the line which one will be worth more!! Potential for a premium on the 4C inititally but thats not what I am after

I went from 987 cayman to boxster spyder. The spyder murders the cayman in every performance area and feel.

I admired the cayman, but never loved it, in fact got bored of it. I absolutely love the spyder. It out drives it and has the important element of having character. I know they share many things, but the spyder actually feels special.

I would get a 981 box over the new cayman.

Of course it does. If your previous car had been Cayman R, I doubt there would be much difference. Springs are a bit softer on spyder which is actually good thing most cases. Soft top is no option for me here in the North(the real North smile ).

yes. but you haven't had the Cayman R.

It is even better than the spyder in terms of driving dynamics. Desirability might be subjective but there will be no argument that it is the pinnacle of all 987 chassised cars. In any case, I think the new 981 is cracking.. I look forward to buying the R version in 5 years.
