Phooey, that GTS looks fantastic!

It's making me want to go for another test drive.

It would make sense in my view. Porsche seemed reasonably confident that the "manual is dead" when they introduced the PDK-only GT3 but the backlash from enthusiasts made them back off that decision. They likely want to avoid this situation with Turbo vs N/A engines. If Walter Röhrl's comments are any indication then there’s going to be a whole lot of backlash.
AP also confirmed that there will be future N/A GT3s post-facelift, that suggests they can't completely tool down the 9A1 manufacturing. Might as well make the most of it then.

They could keep the 3.8L 9A1 in various states of tune around for relatively limited production runs - 911.2 GTS, rumoured 991 "Clubsport", 911.2 GT3 / RS and 987.2 GT4 / RS / Boxster Spyder, et cetera. Maybe even for a nice sounding yet economic 991.2 plugin hybrid in some years?

Obviously they will charge more for the slower, old 9A1 than the brand new, more powerful 3.0L turbo but you just know people will gladly pay for it. Porsche marketing strategy at its best.

Ok, so bringing it back to the dreaded price, should Porsche go down the turbo route for .2, would you suspect GTS prices to hold firm at £90k, or does that remain a bad bet for the time being? I can't bring myself to buy any high 5 figure car without a strong possibility of good residuals.

I'm not an expert on the matter but from what I can tell there's very little additional R&D to be done for a N/A GTS.
GT3 will be naturally aspirated, that means 9A1 because a new flat six na lump is exceedingly unlikely, so they'll have to adapt the shell for that engine either way.

If they cannot be bothered to strip the interior of the 991 GT3 RS for cost and time reasons (see AP comments in the sportauto gt3 rs supertest) then I doubt they would go out of their way to redesign a new shell for the couple thousand 991.2 GT3 that wlll need to accept a 9A1.
That has to be planned from the get go. The decent reliability record of the recent flat sixes is another reason why they don't need to axe it yet.

As for the Carrera S being faster than a GTS, I personally don't see a problem with that. A Turbo is faster than the GT3, nobody seems to be bothered by that anymore. In my view the GTS was always focused on a balance of practicality and driving involvement rather than outright lap times.
We'll will find out soon enough.

Sorry iPad issues.

It's a story by Greg Kable and given that same issue has piece by hack riding shotgun in prototype turbo 911s hot weather testing in South Africa I guess the magazine may be better placed than you wink

Time will tell. But according to Autocar both GTS and GT3 will stay n/a.

Edited to add: GTS also reported to be getting 4 wheel steer

Maybe the GTS will simply be the GT3 with a downtuned engine and some back seats. Massively different from the current GTS, but it would be more rational!

lol. It honestly is a fantastic all-rounder - I can see me stepping into one after I've had my fussy out of the GT4. I keep looking at the 140miles white manual 15plate with -20 suspension at OPC Swindon driving

Sidicks, yes - black wheels.

Good to be sceptical.
And good to hear others' opinions too - particularly those courted by Porsche.
As I said, time will tell. But I hope Autocar is right.

I think it is odd too. However assuming it is correct the only thing I can think of is that they needed to continue to make a certain number of NA engines to make it viable. How many GTS were sold in 997 guise and 991?

However this is not helping their emissions / efficiency targets by using it for the GTS, which was the whole point of the turbo's coming in. Puzzling.

I doubt very much the GTS would have a different engine from the normal 911. The GTS is obviously more than a higher spec normal car, suspension tweaks, exhaust tweaks etc. etc. but having a different engine... The only reason I could see this route going ahead is if they need to sell more of the GT3 engines to make it viable to have that car NA in the future. Did they not get rid of the Metzger engine as it was no longer financially viable having a completely stand alone engine in the GT3?

Got mine just over a week ago. It is the C4 and the primary reason I went for the 4wd was that more often then not we have wet/damp roads in this country - just take a look outside in the height of summer. Previous 2wd models always left me concentrating a bit too much when just wanted to motor along at a rapid pace. My M3 and M5 just give up in the damp never mind wet weather. Just thought I'd see what 4wd was like.
Before the GT3RS brigade start moaning about the colour should only be for their cars, blah, blah, blah - it was on the options list and I decided it was the one for me.

Love it-
Much more interesting than the standard colour options!

Buy IMHO, just had two days in one and am now totally hooked, but unfortunately not in a position to pull trigger on one right now. Did think I had until end of year to order one, or is the GTS build stopping with the Aug factory shutdown?

I hope the 991.2 sounds as good as that GTS at full chat or I'm screwed and will have to wait for a mint pre-owned. I note Porsche have built quite a few GTS's and released them to the dealers as demo's. The all seem to have the aero package, and red rev dial........so not sure there will be that many around due low sales....

They had quite a few GTS models at PEC. They have to end up somewhere.

Question is, will the trend continue on the value of the GTS. Stonking buy at ~£90k, or will we see a drop in price similar to how the 997 did which are now advertised around £60k?

If this is true, it will make the perfect upgrade from my CGTS. That's if I can't get my hands on the GT3.

That's simply stunning, that colour is really starting to grow on me now and the Aero Kit just sets it off IMO.
