The comment from the OPC is very similar to what mine has said although they have asked me to formal register my interest for the GT3.
I have not had 10 cars but I have just purchased 2 new cars from them one being a GT4.
What is amazing is some of the big purchasers are allowed to get 2. An owner was collecting his second RS when I was collecting my GT4.

Tough Luck jimmyslr you only had Race Porsches ...... no Macans ....
10 cars or 1 every 2 years for 20 years .......no I believe it is a history of buying GT or RS models as believe it or not they struggled to sell them years ago ...
Had a run in my new GT3 RS ...... just easy as gearing wrong ( short circuit box , awaiting the "spares package " strangely not delivered yet ) ...

Well to be fair, why should you be 'entitled' to a GT car over someone else who has bought more cars and therefore has been far more profitable for the OPC?I suspect the criteria per above isn't going to be applied to everyone anyway. It's going to be applied to those outside of the 'known' customers of the dealer who will be getting cars. It's just a way of filtering the rest who drop in expecting to get cars.
So to get back to the point of my OP, he has so far contacted three OPCs and they've all said basically the same as in that memo. He's never had a Porsche so he can't have one now.
He's absolutely livid, frankly. He's been a loyal Aston customer for a long time and was willing to jump ship, but can't because they only want to keep their bum chums happy and don't care about new business.
So he's said 'Go fk Yourselves' and managed to secure an Aston GT8 slot from his dealer and it'll sit in the garage next to a DB11 when that arrives. Excellent work, Porsche!

he's livid because he expected to jump in having never bought a car from Porsche and shove a whole bunch of existing customers out of a car that the OPC probably quite rightly expects will have far more prospective customers than allocations? He's not angry with the OPCs, he's angry with the speculators and flippers that have created this scenario. And Porsche. The OPCs are merely reacting to the situation created by flippers and are trying to stem that tide.
But there should be the chance for someone to buy one of the cars if they're an enthusiast and would use it well.
It's ridiculous.

To clarify, he had a GT8 on order from ages ago when they were first announced. The dealership moved his slot to someone else, but he offered them a bit more for it back. I agree the situation is ridiculous however to exonerate each and every OPC from implication in this farce, and imply they are simply 'reacting to the situation created by flippers' remains a little simplistic.He's not angry with the OPCs, he's angry with the speculators and flippers that have created this scenario. They were placed in this position by AG, and their new desire to build the brand through the release of small run halo models to shift metal. How the OPC's handled it, has varied widely in my experience and having spoken to many owners at both ends of the spectrum.
I think the criteria as detailed earlier in the thread is pretty much wher it needs to be.
It kills the 'flipper' off as a result of the 12 month, 10 car minimum rule & builds volume and local OPC loyalty through their increased sales of their 'cooking' models.
Unless Germany increases production of the halo models, which it will never do as this business model is obviously working, then the situation will remain.
So some bloke in a Hublot watch and brown pointy shoes who expects his toys immediately, can stamp his feet, but in reality they're a business and they need to shift volume to keep the shareholders and VAG content. It's working.

Not meaning to stir things up but I agree with isaldiri here. As jimmyslr correctly pointed out, GT cars weren't particularly popular till they started fetching a premium. Now that speculators have entered the market, the OPC should act responsibly by supporting customers with whom they have an existing relationship or risk selling to someone they don't know and the car is flipped for a profit. At the end of the day, none of us would like to be told how to do our jobs or run our businesses. Porsche has been rather successful with its brand development and management despite a dilution by the Cayenne, Panamera and Macan. Although a letter of intent is still a prerequisite, the market has moved on from them in terms of allocations. Being an enthusiast is one thing but being a loyal customer to the OPC/brand is another. Anybody who wants a halo car needs to be both. If you're not, expect merely to receive a holding letter.
If you're still intent on buying a halo car, the only other path I see is if someone else who would be considered for a halo car is willing to give a reference to a new customer. Aside from that, there are people who have been loyal to the brand and OPCs for decades and there is no reason why a new customer should receive an allocation ahead of them.

As I am sure you are aware, there is likely to be a greater desire for this vehicle in volume terms, than there is indeed production available. Should this turn out to be the case, Porsche Centre Sheffield will allocate production to customers based on the following criteria;
1. Must not have owned an exclusive product and sold it on within the last 12 months – A qualifying criteria.
2. You must have purchased a minimum of 10 Porsches from the centre
3. You should be known to the centre as a long term keeper of Porsche Vehicles
4. Geographically local and a supporter of the Centre
5. Loyalty to the centre
In the event of a tie, overall purchase volume will become the deciding factor, should a tie remain, the Brand Director will consider all cases and decide accordingly.
In the event that we are able to satisfy your desire to purchase a 911 GT3, Gen 2, we will confirm this in writing further to receipt of our allocation. At this point, you will be required to sign an order and to pay a deposit within 14 days, further to which the allocation will be forfeited. Until this time we would be unable to receive any deposits for this model.
Please note that in particular the date that you register your interest will have no bearing whatsoever on the allocation of build slots to customers.

I struggle to comprehend how this sort of marketing works.
How many people, who can actually afford that level of car, are influenced by watching videos of breathless children driving around in what is a little disguised advert?

Agree with this. Sounds like madness. Are there really enough folk who wish to buy a GT3 that have also bought 10 new cars? I'm amazed. This must be music to the ears of mclaren. I might ring OPC Guildford and Portsmouth, as I'm between the two, and see what they say. It might amuse me or frustrate me. Porsche - BUILD MORE CARS!
I appreciate Porsche need to control the flippers but the above criteria only means the "older" generation of collectors get a look in, us "relatively" young enthusiasts can't buy one.... I haven been around long enough to have bought 10 cars whilst not selling any of them within a 12 month period unless I just went in and bought a job lot which lets face it not many of us are in a position to do! - I think this could backfire on Porsche if what was highlighted above is true!
