I did hope for more takers than this , mainly with the 993tt and boring comments, it's funny because it's true

993tt or gayman s?Let me try and find a way of comparing the relative merits of theses cars!I think residual values should do the trick...

Now I'm getting a bit confused... I can longer tell who is taking the p and who is earnestly deadly and laughably serious.

One comment on PCGB being snobbish - well, not the crowd I know. You would soon have the p ripped out of you....

And as for the so-called Porsche hierarchy lets be honest here, isn't it obvious??? We all know the GT3 stable sits at Gods right hand with all you lower forms of life just filling the coffers to enable the racing to continue.....

Sorry crack, your fishing bait just looked too plastic and completely failed to hide the hook! So you can go scratch yourself then sniff your fingers, I ain't biting!

(But KayC is right, it's an added bonus that my boring car is still worth what I paid for it a couple of years ago!)

just below the 550 spyder?

But I still think the 904 is and I see the Cayman as something of a successor to that, though without the direct link with racing.

How come every Porsche Cayman driver wants to have a go ?
Ive never experienced this with any Boxster drivers
Maybe the Boxster drivers understand you dont have a go at a GT3 RS
where as the Cayman drivers dont know the where they are on the Porsche
hierarchy

This has happened 3 times in the last 3 weeks

..... I think they understand now !

tim

because they are interested in understanding the gap between the two cars ?

I had a go with a 996 on the A3 about 8 months ago. Broke off at 130mph as the partner was getting stressy (and the driver was pulling away too!) I would only dream of have fun like that with another Porsche owner. Forget young lads in inferior cars. Take it for what it is, harmless fun.

What do you drive?

I'll happily have a light hearted go with anything - I love to see fast cars driven well.

The 996 Turbo, 993 Turbo DULL??? LLLLLLLOOOOOOOOLLLLLLL

This could only be said by someone out of his mind or blurred by envy and has obviously never drove one.

Well, I guess when Clarkson (which hates 911's) elected the 996 Turbo as the 2nd best car of all time was just plain wrong.

Sure the GT3 is a more dedicated sports car but as an all rounder nothing and I MEAN NOTHING beats the 996 Turbo specially with a couple of mods to reduce its inherent understeer...

Without wanting to sound arrogant I'd like to mention that my opinion is not based on a long history of Porsche ownership (I just own a 996 Turbo and its my first) but based on the experience of being a driving instructor for some clubs including a non-oficial Porsche club where I had the oportunity to drive many Porsche before I took the plunge.

My car is getting the RS Tuning ECU on Friday... IF 508bhp, 740NM (Yes, SEVEN HUNDRED and ...), 331km/h (approx. 205mph), 3.96s from 0 to 100km/h (all of this tested by German Sport Auto) and tuned handling is DULL then I'd like a passenger ride on one of those Caymans as they're obviously diferent from the one I drove then... which although nimble and healthy handling (just like the new 997 C2S) as a driving experience cannot be put in the same sentence as a 996 Turbo or a 993 Turbo!

the porsche forum on PH has gone down hill since they joined it with the boxster/cayman forum.

I bet Ted only did it for a laugh, "what would really annoy them 911 owners AND please the TVR owners at the same time . . . . I wonder if I join these two forums up . . . ."

its not snobbery, porsche made a capable car with the cayman, shame they kept it a lesser car than the flagship 911 by not giving it more power and no LSD, even if youll pay near the same money when you have added the options.

when I drove one I noticed it wasent as competent on the corners when driving on the edge, and was not even as fast as my trusty old, std 996.

Cant beleive this thread! IMO its got nothing to do with the car you drive its the attitude that makes you a nob!
Remember once getting spanked by a golf VR6 (stop laughing I was driving a Maxda MX6, and yes it was a long time ago) as I peeled off the guy waved could just about make it out through the purple smoke coming out of the back of his charriot. Made me smile.

I'm 51 and want a Cayman RS with a GT3 block --- and set-up for road scratching.

The ultimate Boxster ?

And I reckon it's quite a looker.

Does that make me very Wong ?
