Why is the tip worse for fuel consumption?

I can see it on long journeys, not having the higher sixth gear, but i would have thought around town it would be better? Always picking the right gear etc?

Found the OBC hack using the Porsche stalk.

www.whiteson.org/boxster/mods/obc/obc.stalk.pdf

It's for a Boxster but it's so similar as makes no odds. I think the main difference is the hazard switch on the 996 has a surround that's tricky to remove, other than that, it's the same.

Sorry O/T but is the OBC turning on a simple (read inexpensive) job and do you need to add additional parts ie. some kind of control lever/button.

Easy if you're handy at DIY.

You need your local OPC/indie to turn it on first, all 996's have all the software, but it's not enabled unless you order the OBC.

Then you get the control stalk (apparently you buy the four lever one and cut off one stalk as the part is cheaper) and fit it.

I'll have a link to the hack at home somewhere which I'll try to remember to post up later.

Once you enable it you get outside temp display even without the switch/stalk being fitted as long as you have A/C.

WHAT!

Are you telling me that my car has the OBC but PORSCHE HAVEN'T TURNED IT ON.....!!!

Read what's involved in the DIY conversion^. It's well within the scope of a home job if you're spaner handy. Just needs the option enabling by your local OPC or indie and a switch or stalk retrofitting to operate it.

Actually, given the fact that I rarely get over 20mph except for a blat on the A4, I am a bit of a tool for buying Super...!

Don't mean to alarm you but standard unleaded supposedly doesn't do the TT any good at all ... Fumes are too hot for the turbos they say ... plus other stuff that's FAR too technical for me .. But it'd be worth looking into in case you're storing up problems for yourself long term ....

Ya agreed mate whats the point ?

Although I will probably be corrected the higher octane is for better performance which you def dont need in London !
