Magic write-up Cem, thank you.

I would love one of those cars. God knows if I would ever actually sell mine for one, but I might do.

Nice write up, and congrats

I remember your "Just sold the 550" post somewhere - that too was a very fine read.

Once the honeymoon period is over, can you post again?

Maybe in 12 months time?

Agreed.

Every car I ever bought was the best car ever, until I wanted something else.

But good luck with the car, and thanks for the initial insight !

Reason to buy a 997GT3, it's an easy car to live with. Or am I just becoming a cynical old fart ?

Do I really want an answer (well I hope, at least, we are amongst friends !!) ?

No - dont think anyone on here choose it for that reason - mad! should think almost every other car on the road is easier to live with - 2 seats - limited lugagge space, loads of engine noise, roll cage in back....what do you mean easy to live with?

If you rephrased it not being impossible to live with might be closer, as thats where the 996 GT3 RS "might" have fallen down. So 997 gives you the performace and a little more.

Where previous buyers who wanted the best drivers 911, but had to be realistic went for a C2S/TT as the old GT3 was just too comprimised, can now get the GT3 knowing its still a fantastic driving tool, but will do the motorway slugs when required.

looks the bus too!! lick lick

To me this car, and even more so the RS version, are going to be classic 911s. Everything is just so right about it.

Reason to buy one, "Easy to live with" ? Your having a laugh!

I was smitten by the 911 as a schoolboy - a bahama yellow 2.0 used to pass my bus stop, flat-6 whirring, fuchs flickering in the light - wonderful

Bought my first 911, an '83 SC, in 1983 and I've been lucky enough to own 15, and drive most variants, over the years. Even held on to some of the nicest.

IMO, the 2.7RS (M471 'sport') remains the 'greatest'. 'Favourite'? Well we all have our favourites, that's a personal choice.

But the 'best'? Yes, it very probably is the new 997 GT3. And so it should be. Of course, in years to come, the 998 GT3 may be even better. But, at this point in time, the 997 GT3 really is THE class act.

White makes it look so short doesn't it ?

In terms ultimately of it's classic status -- maybe tenyears hence, in terms of the driving exterience and it being "easy to live with", is the softer 997GT3 a compromise ? or maybe even compromised by this ?

Will it continue to be a sense of accasion to climb into ? Or will it just become old when newer models come along ?

Is this the general consumer version of the GT3 ? And if so, is this now what GT3 stands for as Porsche aim to rack up the numbers ?

Or is that why the RS is so much more expensive --- and therefore, compromised and exclusive ? Hence the wild colours (and no white ?)

I am not knocking it --- I really am very pleased it's a very good car. But is it, really, a GT4 ?

Absolutely stunning write up that gives us mortals a tantelising taster of what GT3 ownership really is like. It really is as good as I though.

One question, why did you not go for an RS again?

I'm merely allowing myself to be wrapped up in a toy for this moment. I cannot predict the future, if progression continues as we've witnessed then no doubt, there will be better cars than this GT3. For me, I will look back and remember snapshots of moments with these cars. This is what makes us remember certain cars more fondly.

We can look back at a 205 GTI 1.9 and remember it for the sake of nostalgia as no doubt, anyone who has that car will remember the moments. Compare that car with a modern, like-for-like hatchback, and it will be crap in comparison.

2 years time, Porsche will release the 997GT3 Mk2 - history has shown that Porsche can do this. It will be better, faster, more capable and everybody will crown the new king (myself included). I'll wait for that day, but until then, I have 2 years of blissful motoring ahead of me

How'd I miss this first time around? Magic picture, blow dog. Magic. The GT3 is a real thorn in my side at the moment. I persuade myself I don't need or want one (we'll leave the fact I can't really afford one out of it for the mo), and then I see pictures like yours and I'm checking between and under the sofa cushions again. No luck yet unless Porsche accept fluff and chocolate buttons.

Damn your hide, sir.

Guys and Cem,

I still have time to change my GT3 order and im in doubts as to go with normal sport seats or go for the buckets. Im thinking that it will spend perhaps 50/50 track/road as it wont be my everyday car. Im 5'9(5'8) i keep hearing different storys as to the best size for the buckets, can anyone tell me if they think being short will prove ANOTHER problem and so just go for standard sport seats? I take it i could fit recaro's afterwards?!?!?

I really need to get out in one i suppose.
